I woke in a cell. I wasn't chained to anything but I had a pounding headache and I was extremely drowsy. I groaned and rubbed my head. There was a bump and a cut above my eyebrow. Blood dribbled down and I wiped it with my sleeve. The larger man from the market was sitting outside my cell, snickering.
"I never actually thought I'd have to capture a hunter. Your kind and mine has a treaty you know." I rolled my eyes at him and previewed my surroundings. I wasn't the only one locked up at least 3 other prisoners on my row.
"My brothers will be here soon. And you broke the terms of that treaty when you kidnapped me. An act like that is punishable by death." He snorted and cracked his knuckles. "My Alpha will be here soon. He'll decide what to do with you." He left after that.
I decided needed my strength to deal with an Alpha so I rested my head against the stone wall, I knew it would be laced with silver, and fell into a restless sleep.
"Wake up." I opened my eyes slowly. I rubbed them and then laced my fingers in my lap. A man crouched before me, his blue eyes were tired. His blonde curly hair stood up wildly on his head. He ran a hand threw it and yawned. It was the same man from the school receptionists desk.
"Sorry about the uh, confusion. I know a hunter when I see one. They're also the only ones that could be calm enough to fall asleep with wolves around." He grinned at me and rose to his full height. He easily towered over me, and as I got to my feet I still had to tilt my head to meet his eyes. "I'll drive you home. Hopefully we can clear this up before anymore hunters come along." He lead the way out of the cell, his hands in his pockets. He was laid back, or too tired to care about much."We've had a bad past with Hunters is all. We try to steer clear of them. Even with the treaty in place a few Hunters don't appreciate that we've formed a pack here." He walked up a set of stairs and threw a door that opened to a much brighter level of the home.
"You've got a pack?" I'd never heard of it before. Each species of creatures had one Alpha, the first of their kind. There were a few amongst the species that were more powerful than the rest, but none compared to the strength of the Alpha. In the case of wolves, their Alpha was known as a Lycan. He was immortal and had the power to grant immortality to other wolves. There were also rumors about him having other powers as well. No one in the Hunter world knew where he was. If an Alpha didn't want to be found, they weren't.
"I'm the one in a million. I was born with a more dominant wolf. As was my father and my grandfather. My grandfather started this pack and it was passed on to me from my father. It'll be my son's when he is born." His voice was quiet but the undercurrent of authority was recognizable. "It's stressful, building something from the ground up. Even more stressful when others will stop at nothing to take it from you." He sighed and opened another door. Behind this one was a spacious garage with more than five expensive looking cars in it.
"I'm Drake Walters, by the way. You have the protection of the Fenrir Pack. I figure we owe you that." Drake opened the passenger door of a Mercedes Spider and I slipped inside. He climbed in himself and turned on the engine. It purred beautifully and I fell madly in love. I was tempted to ask for the car instead of his protection. He drove at least 20 mph over the speed limit and I wondered out loud where officer Kyle was.
Drake chuckled and shook his head. "Farley? He's head warrior from my pack. He pulled you over?" I scuffed and crossed my arms over my chest. "Yeah, luckily I didn't get a ticket." Drake rolled into town and slowed down considerably. "He watches over the town, makes sure no outsiders, wolves, trespass on our land." He pulled up in front of Maggie's book store and shut off the engine.
"My mothers." He nodded up at the store and I chose then to realize that the entire town must have been made up of wolves. It explained how Maggie had gotten all the other stores to turn down my job application, and why. She wanted to keep an eye on me for her son. He held the door open for me and a bell twinkled overhead. A woman with strawberry blonde hair and bright brown eyes leant against the counter, Maggie. She looked over her glasses at us and a smile spread across her face. She laid the book she'd been reading on the counter and spread her arms wide. She came from behind the counter and embraced Drake. "Oh, my boy." She was tiny compared to him, but rocked him side to side in her arms. She then held him at arms length and smiled up at him. "How long has it been?" She breathed out. Drake chuckled and shook his head at his mother. "It's been three days mother." Maggie frowned and slapped his chest playfully. She left his arms and went back behind the counter. "You hush boy. Oh my, Aurora O'Harrin! Is that you my dear girl?" I stepped from behind Drake and smiled at her. Her smile broadened and she waved me over. She took my hands in her own and looked at me over her glasses. "I pegged you as a Hunter the moment you walked through my door. You carry yourself like one, and have that same look that they all do. The look that says you've seen too much." She squeezed my hands then letting them go. She patted them before clasping her hands together. "I should show you around the store!" I shook my head immediately and backed away from the counter. "My brothers must be worried sick. I should really be getting back." Drake groaned and looked skyward. "Two brothers?" He asked and his mother frowned. "Drake Andrew Walters! What have you done?" She scolded, Drake actually cowered away from his and I coughed into my hand to cover a laugh. If in wolf form, I knew he would have been whimpering.
"Grant and Jay may have kidnapped her?" He looked at the ground as if it held the secrets of the universe. Maggie took her glasses off and lowered them slowly to the counter. "Boy I have half the mind to wear your hind out! When I get my hands on those boys! Take my poor girl home this instant." Maggie's voice had risen with each word until she was yelling at Drake. He took a step back and whimpered softly. He nodded urgently and grabbed my arm, dragging me out of the store. He sighed in relief once were seated in the Spider. "You'd think she was the Alpha." He pulled away from the curb and grumbled incoherently under his breath. I gave him directions to my house in between fits of laughter.

Maggie has become one of my favorite characters. She comes in more often because I felt like the book needed a mother figure.
Thanks for reading, I really do appreciate it. I have big plans for the characters in this book.
I noticed that I always publish books late at night and expect a good out come...
