Gabe had gone back to Castiel’s house with Corena and Liam. I was glad he did, because something was definitely off. The town felt eerily empty. It was 9:00 now and I had gotten a few hours of sleep on the beach next to Cass, but I was exhausted. My sluggish brain made the situation seem less creepy than it actually was, but I could tell by Cass’s reaction when we’d rolled in that it wasn’t good. Cass drove tensely, his hands gripping the wheel so tight his knuckles were white. I put my hand on his shoulder and squeezed, trying to calm him down. He relaxed a fraction, but he remained wound up tight. “Drake probably called everyone to a pack meeting or something?” I suggested. Castiel’s eyes remained fixed on the road. “No. Drake Walters is smart. He wouldn’t leave his town unprotected like this. Something is wrong.” He pulled up in front of Maggie’s book store and put the car into park. He sat for a moment, running his hands along the steering wheel.

“The Moon Goddess made me give him Lycan abilities for a reason. Something has to be wrong.” He pulled the keys out of the ignition and unfolded his tall body from the vehicle. I suppressed my panic and followed after him. He waited for me on the curb and grabbed my hand as soon as it was in reach. He pulled me closer to him and then in front of him. “There is death near by. We will check on Maggie and then I am getting you out of here. I’ll come back to check on Drake Walters later.” I stopped in the doorway of the store and looked up at him. “If Drake is in trouble, I’m coming. He gave me his protection, and although I may have not voiced it, I gave him mine too.”

Castiel’s jaw line locked and he pushed me into the store, making sure the door closed behind him. “No.” He said simply and then stepped around me. He took the metal stairs up and I ran up after him. “Castiel I am 19 years old and completely capable of taking care of myself.” I said. He continued on until he reached the door that read private. He pushed it open slowly and I couldn’t see around his large body.

“Castiel?” Maggie’s voice. “Oh lord Castiel!” She said with more urgency. Castiel rushed into the room. I finally got to look inside and was stunned to find Maggie and Drake’s mate shackled to bars over the window in the room. “What happened?” I asked as I went to Maggie. She growled low as Castiel easily broke the chain. “Thank God for this boy’s Lycan strength. Those things were made to keep even the strongest of werewolves locked down.” Castiel broke the chain connecting Drake’s mate to the window and she stormed towards the door. “I am going to kick some serious ass!” She yelled and then she was gone.

“A rival pack has started a war against Drake’s pack. The pack sent a few wolves over, Drake is handling them. Everyone is on perimeter or right smack dab in the middle of a battle ground of sorts. But my idiot son thought it’d be safer to chain his poor mother and mate to a window instead of letting us fight.” Maggie waved the broken chain still attached to her wrist by the cuff wildly. Castiel perked an eyebrow. “He forgot to lock the front door.” Maggie huffed in frustration and started out. “Idiot!”

Maggie called her son various names before shifting into a medium sized brown wolf. She sprinted towards Drake’s pack house and soon we lost sight of her. “Come on.” I pulled the door of the car open and looked at Cass over the hood. “Where are we going?” He asked cautiously. I rolled my eyes and got in. Castiel started the car and left it in park. “Take me to my house. I’m going to get a few things.”

I stepped into the garage and smiled. Henry had left a generous amount of the weapons behind. I had a little of everything in various places in the car but to fight an army? I wanted more. I was a weapons junkie, I had to admit. I knew every weapon on the wall, inside and out. Most of them had personal nicknames. “Ole Betty.” I grinned as I approached the gun made completely out of silver. It came with a whole lot of silver bullets. It was perfect for killing werewolves, they couldn’t touch it. So if I dropped it, they couldn’t pick it up and use it on me. I took the gun off of it’s hooks and tucked it into the waist of my pants. I grabbed several knives. I looked down and groaned at my shoe choice. Freaking astrological vans. I put a knife in each of my four pockets and looped and knife belt around my waist. I put three more inside of the holsters.

“Aurora?” I looked up from my task to Castiel in the doorway. “I love you. Îmi pare rău, dar nu-mi dai de ales.” He said before banging the garage door shut. I heard the sound of the door locking and I was stunned. Did he just attempt to lock me in the garage? I went to the garage door and tried to lift it but it was much heavier than the last time I’d done it. I banged my fist against it. “Cass!” I heard him on the other side and then his sigh. “You’re not fighting Aurora. The door is weighted down, and I locked the chains together that allow it to move whilst you were obsessing over weapons.”

“Castiel I will cut your nuts off if you leave me in here!” He sighed again and then his footsteps sounded, getting softer and softer. I heard bones snapping, and then a soft whimper. I waited ten minutes, but there was no sound. He left me. I was amazed, but it vanished quickly replaced by anger. I kicked the door forcefully and screamed. “I’m going to kill that bastard.” I grumbled moving towards the door that lead into the garage. I inspected the lock, Henry had installed a much more secure model that required a key to unlock. He didn’t want anyone sticking their noses where they didn’t belong. It would take me a while to pick it, if it was even possible. I sighed and began searching the garage for a back up lock picking kit. I’d left everything in the car, which I now realize was a pretty stupid idea. Castiel had been solid on his decision to not let me help or get involved. I should’ve known he would have tried something.

I found the kit and began to try my luck with the lock.
