It had been an unbearable two hour drive to the demon's house. Castiel had asked questions the entire time, answering them himself if I refused to talk. I slammed the door shut and glared at him over the hood of the car. "You can't go in here all big bad wolf. That's not how these things work." Castiel gave me a curt nod and grinned at me. I think he enjoyed annoying me, for a change. I rubbed my hands over my eyes and pushed my hair back from my face. I walked up the drive and used the key that the demon had given me to unlock the front door. I opened it wide and the demon was sitting at the dining room table. He jumped bolt upright and hurried towards me.
"Aurora O'Harrin! Long time no see. Oh, and you've brought a friend..." He stopped in front of me looking at Castiel. He sniffed the air and his smile wavered. "A Lycan friend." He added. His eyes showed worry which made me suspicious. "Extra artillery? What have I done?" He chuckled nervously and I knew then something was off. I walked further into the house leaving Castiel in the doorway. My eyes scanned the room for something that wasn't right. I noticed the absence of table salt beside the pepper and it made me smile. It was amazing how something so simple did so much damage. My eyes continued their scour before they settled on the meal the demon had been eating when I entered. I made my way towards it.
"So, Philip." I recalled the demons name as I closely inspected the slice of meat on the demons plate. It was barely cooked, blood was seeping slowly towards the greens on the plate. I took a whiff and it smelled like beef. I nodded my head in approval and continued on. As I passed the basement door I noticed something on the floor.
"Have you been behaving yourself?" I bent down to take a closer examination. Anyone else would have missed it, but I was trained to notice everything. I touched the tip of my pinky to the substance. It was so close the cabinet's and so small that I had almost skimmed over it. I brought my pinky to my nose and frowned.
"Of course Aurora, Ms. O'Harrin." The demon stumbled over his words, rushing them out. I rose from the floor and made my way towards the demon, stopping inches away. Castiel growled but I put my hand up to silence him. Luckily, he listened. "Are you lying to me Philip?" I questioned. The demon averted his eyes before nodding quickly. "No, never. I would never." He chuckled nervously. I nodded my head and turned away. When I heard him breathe out in relief, I swiveled quickly, taking the demon knife from the waist of my pants and plunging it into the creatures midriff.
"I hate liars, Philip." The demon made a short circuiting noise, and it's veins glowed a bright orange. I ripped the blade from him and he fell to my feet. Castiel grunted and pulled me back so that he didn't fall on me. "What the hell was that?" He demanded. I removed my arm from his grasp and walked back into the kitchen, opening the cabinet I had stopped in front of. The smell had been faint with the cabinet closed, but once I opened it, the smell of dead human flesh flooded the room. I looked at Castiel and his jaw was set, his eyes hard. I peered in the cabinet myself. The body and a blonde haired women was shoved inside. Her blue eyes were frozen open. I shook my head and closed the cabinet. I pulled out my phone to call Jacob.
It was early the next morning by the time we got into town. Cass had decided I was in no state to go back to his house with the others. I think he only wanted me near him after what he witnessed me do. I complained that I was fine, and he ignored me. We were sitting on the beach. He sat a few inches away from me, against his will. I'd taken off my Vans to sink my toes into the soft white sand. I picked up a handful of sand, let it flow through my fingers, and did it again. I stared out at the soft waves, crashing over the shore. The land and the earth were in a never ending dance. The waves fought their way forward, and then retreated, taking some of the sand with it. But with every wave that crashed, it only deposited the sand that it had took.
"How'd you know?" It was the first thing he'd said since we sat down. I shrugged and picked up my next had full of sand. "I just did. I've been doing this since I was five. I killed my first creature, a vampire, when I was six. It's all I've ever known." I'd said it casually, but I resented my father for sucking us into this life. But I couldn't help but love him too. We helped people with what we did, even if it was slowly destroying us.
