Shuichi sighed as he looked through the paperwork. He hated the fact everybody in the department usually dropped work on and even more because he didn't have the goddamn spine to stand up for himself. However he pushed those thoughts as he tried to make sure he had everything in perfect order. It wasn't a serious case but a case nontheless.
He felt relief when he remembered he didn't have to take care of the millions of things Kaede wanted him to do afterwards. Kokichi was there to help him with that. He still felt a bit hesitant to rely on someone like this but tried to brush it off. His friends were right. He needed help.
Meanwhile cleaned every single piece of furniture in the house. Shuichi basically lived like a prince even though he didn't necessarily look happy about it. He also felt curious about the golden writing on certain rooms with Kaede's name on it. It was as if they were exclusively hers.
After about an hour or two, Ouma was almost done wth the cleaning. He walked in Shuichi's bedroom which was linked to his study. The bedroom and the study were the last places he needed to clean. He began sweeping the floor with the broom, humming a little tune as he did.
He had always wondered why people bought mansions when a simple warm cottage with a cozy bedroom, a small kitchen, and a living room was enough to satisfy a person. However, it didn't look like Shuichi wanted some of the rooms in this mansion. The dressing room, piano room, game room, tv room, wine cellar, and pool...who would need all this? Even the bathroom was full of expensive toiletries like scented candles worth a fortune.
He shook his head. It was none of his business what Shuichi decided to spend his money on, even if he thought it was a waste.
He made the bed and then went into the study. He came across a sight that surprised him. Shuichi laid there on the desk, snoring softly, tired, baggy eyes visible under his pretty blue hair. Was he working on cases all day? It was sad to see him so consumed by his work. If it's not cleaning the house, it's the detective agency, he thought. Ouma came up to get a closer look at the boy. He was obviously exhausted. Ouma felt sadness stir in his eyes.
"Oh wow... It looks like he fell asleep working..." he thought immediately following it up with no shit Sherlock. He saw Shuichi shiver and then realized the window was open. He walked up to it and closed it slowly as to not make any sound.
He looked at Shuichi with understanding. Even though he was much more stable now financially when he was younger his family constantly had money issues and lived in horrible situations. He'd work odd jobs all the time and would return home only to die of exhaustion on his broken mattress every day.
"I should probably get him to bed instead of sleeping on the desk" he then thought and poked the boy on his face in order to wake him up. The Shuichi's eyes fluttered open slightly and he looked at Ouma half, wait not half, almost entirely asleep. It looked almost cute to Kokichi, how sleepy he looked reminding him of how his cat looked whenever Kokichi disturbed its nap time.
"What...is it?" Shuichi mumbled blinking slowly. Ouma sighed and smiled.
"Hello sleepyhead, it'd probably best if you go sleep on the bed if you're tired. C'mon." Ouma said taking Shuichi's hand. The way he spoke was definitely out of character of him as he found himself sounding more patronizing. Shuichi nodded tiredly and just followed Ouma with no protest. As soon as Saihara lied down in bed, he fell asleep. Ouma blushed slightly. He wasn't exactly sure why.
"You know Saihara, you can't just overwork yourself like this, this isn't healthy for you. " he said, obviously not expecting a response. He looked back over to the door leading to the study and then back at Shuichi.
