It's been some time since Kaede left Shuichi.

The toxicity in their relationship has left a mark on Shuichi but with the help of his best friends and help from a therapist he was eventually able to recover.

Ouma-kun and him had become best friends and he even introduced him to some of his friends from work and his stepbrother Kaito who he also grew quite close to. Things were looking up. But there was something that still troubled him.

His realization of the fact he was crushing on Ouma-kun.

And it terrified him.

Even he trusted Ouma-kun, he was still scared, very scared another relationship would turn toxic, but after weeks of debating it. He chose to risk it.

"Ouma...would you go on a date with me?"

Kokichi was about to head home when he asked him that. He stared at Shuichi, blushing before he smiled. Secretly it felt like a weight was lifted from both their shoulders.

"I'd love to Shuichi." He whispered happily. "Where is my beloved inviting me?" He spoke so happily.

"Maybe we can go to see a movie tomorrow?" Shuichi proposed. Ouma nodded.

"Sounds nice. Although we have to keep it secret. New company policy is that I'm not supposed to have relationships with my employer" he said. Shuichi nodded.

"So see ya tomorrow on our date!"

Shuichi had been stressing all day.

Relationships... despite his visits with his therapist he was still nervous their date was gonna go wrong. What if he messes up? What if he gets hurt again? The what-ifs of the idea were neverending.

Eventually, he heard a knock on the door and greeted by the sight of Kokichi wearing a jean jacket, underneath a purple shirt with cats with ripped jeans and checkered sneakers. His hair was neatly tied in a ponytail and the strand of hair that usually covered his face pinned to the side with a mini rocket hairpin.

"Ready to go?" Ouma spoke cheerfully. Shuichi smiled. Seeing his smile slightly put him at ease. The two got into his car to go to the cinema. Ouma turned on the radio, messing with the stations finding nothing interest, instead of digging through old custom CDs in Shuichi's car cabinet. He played it and smiled.

"Oh, it's my favorite song!" Ouma said as he turned up the volume. Shuichi looked over at him.

"You like this song too?" He said as Ouma nodded.

Lemon boy and me started to get along together

I helped him plant his seeds and we mowed the lawn in bad weather

It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him

So I got myself...a citrus friend

The two sang the song together smiling as they drove. Shuichi felt himself relax. He wasn't as tense anymore. Ouma-kun's presence was relaxing. His heart stopped rushing and he was at peace.

Once they arrived at the cinema which was in a mall, the two got out of their car getting tickets for some dumb comedy since Ouma suggested that one. Because as Ouma said that cinema snack prices are 'ridiculously overpriced' the two decided they would just get something from the food court after the movie.

The movie itself was good but Shuichi couldn't tell, mesmerized by Ouma's laughter. His little laugh 'nee-hee-hee' made his heart absolutely melt as the heartwarming feeling in his chest spread.

The two went to a fast food joint at which point Ouma proceeded to annoy staff employees and mixing sodas much to Shuichi's amusement, although he'd never admit it. The two ordered food and while waiting suddenly Ouma's phone buzzed. He unlocked before groaning, clearly irritated.

"What is it?" Shuichi asked. Kokichi turned the phone to show him a picture of a galaxy.

"My stepbrother keeps spamming me pictures of space and space facts. I keep telling him space is boring but he just keeps on going. But that's just how family is." He hummed as he proceeded to block his brother on his phone and mutter something about spamming him with memes later or pranking. Shuichi chuckled.

"I don't have any siblings so I can't say. I grew up kind of alone." Shuichi chuckled. Ouma took a sip of his drink.

"Oh, that's right, I haven't heard you talk about your family. What are they like?" he asked. Shuichi rubbed the back of his neck

"Well, my family is actually really famous and very strict...everyone in the family believes in weird tradition 'Hope Success'" he said. His family dynamic was kind of complicated.

"Hope Success? What's that? Sounds like something the Tog-moneybags-ami family would make up" he said thinking back to an upperclassman in a high school next to his own. Stuck up jerk.

"I guess it's pretty similar. It's the belief that anyone in the family will prosper as long as some dumb conditions are met. My mother's a famous actress abroad along with my father who's a screenwriter. My uncle owns a great detective agency and my aunt owns a school that's popular for high test scores." he said. Ouma's eyes widened.

He knew Saihara was famous to an extent from Amami and Tsumugi but he didn't hear he had an entire legacy of success. It wasn't like that particularly mattered to him, he just wanted to be with the person he liked but either way, it was impressive.

"They tried enforcing it on me but as a kid I refused most of the time hanging out with Rantaro, Kiibo, and Kaede not abiding by the rules...so eventually, they let me live life without their entire future plan they've cooked up... but I imagine they're still not pleased with it" Shuichi said nervously. Ouma looked at him softly.

"It sounds like it was tough for you with strict parents like them. We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." he said. He didn't really like the idea of talking about his family life too much either and while it wasn't terrible since Kaito even if annoying cared about him he still had to deal with the fact that he would never truly feel like it's where he belongs.

"Mmhmm...I haven't spoken with them in ages but I really want to reconnect with them..." he said as if he felt he was gonna get judged, something Ouma wouldn't think of doing to him "I think that's the only real way I can heal from the hurt they caused me...besides I never told them I'm...you know..." he started, blushing.

"Bi?" he asked receiving a shy nod in return.

"Well if you ever feel ready talking to them I can come there with ya for emotional support" Kokichi said. Shuichi smiled appreciating the encouragement.

The two ate dinner having fun as Kokichi told him stories about how Kirumi would baby him, how annoying his stepbrother and step-parents (step-grandparents?), how DICE would hang out to watch movies at Kirumi's place with him, how Himiko would host magic shows on weekends and he'd be at each one to boo her only to get kicked out by her overprotective girlfriend Tenko. Shuichi could get hypnotized from the sheer excitement the other boy exuded.

Eventually the two finished their food, splitting the bill as Shuichi drove Ouma home.

"I had fun with you today Shuichi...I hope we can do this again" Kokichi said blushing before pecking Shuichi on the forehead and getting out of the car and into his cozy white house.

Shuichi touched his forehead before smiling. He had a nice date with Ouma and maybe the two could do this again.

Maybe...just maybe...he can love again
