Chapter 5: Feelings Brewing And Childish Games

"Mom! Can I invite someone over?" Shuichi asked running over to his mother's bedroom where she was by the vanity. His mother glanced at him confused.

"Oh? And who might that be?" she asked, frankly more preoccupied with doing her makeup than her son.

"My friend K-Kiibo?? I-I talk to you about him every day when I come back from school!" he stated. His mother looked back at him, finally putting her makeup supplies away.

"Shouldn't you go and hang out with your friend Kaede? You have been ignoring for quite some time now." she said sternly. Shuichi looked at the ground

"But I hanged out with her yesterday..." he said simply. His mother shushed him.

"That boy you're friends with is a bad influence on you if I have to be honest with you. Have you heard what the people around town say about him?" she said in an almost scolding tone. Shuichi looked down

"That he's...gay?" he mumbled under his breath. He never understood what was wrong with his friend liking boys but all he got as an answer was that it's wrong. He didn't think it was wrong so why did others think it was. From that point his mother basically forbid him to hang out with Kiibo until he moved away. At that point he didn't have any other friends than Kaede, Rantaro and Tsumugi. But his parents were so happy...so was it for the best?

Shuichi woke up as he sat looking over at Kaede. He looked over at the bedside clock to see that Kaede would have to start work soon. Shuichi sighed looking over at his partner and shook her gently.

"Whaaat..." she mumbled as she rubbed her eyes. Shuichi smiled.

"You have to get ready for work." he said simply. Kaede nodded.

"Okay...Can you get me some aspirin though. I have a hangover the size of Manhattan" she mumbled. Shuichi nodded going to the bathroom and tugging at the edge of the mirror to reveal some basic medication. He gave it to her along with some water and drank it. "Thank you..." she then added.

The two decided to get dressed with Kaede being a bit more grumpy than usual. Kaede went straight to the door and went outside to her car. Shuichi sighed. As he was about to go to the study he heard the door open before a familiar purple figure walked in.

"Oh good morning Ouma-kun!" he said with a grin to which Ouma-kun smiled as well.

"Good morning! What's up with Miss Akamatsu though?" he asked. Shuichi frowned slightly.

"O-Oh! S-Sorry about her she just had a rough night yesterday..." he chuckled out. Kokichi tilted his head in confusion.

"Ehh no need to apologize I've seen worse. Besides you're not the one who almost drove me over." he laughed. Something about Kokichi's laugh made Shuichi's heart flutter but he shook it off.

"Anyways I'll go tend to the garden now. Bye!" the boy said scurrying over to the door to the garden. Shuichi blushed. Why is my heart beating so fast all of a sudden?
