Shuichi awoke, his eyes fluttering open. He stared in front of him where Ouma-kun still laid holding onto his hand. Shuichi stared at him.
"It wasn't a dream..." Shuichi teared up squeezing Ouma's hand tighter. He really didn't want to be alone but didn't want anybody to bother to care for him. He let out a shaky breath.
What if he leaves him too? What if he gets fed up with him and he'll end up alone? Shuichi was stuck in his thoughts. What if-What of-?!
"Saihara-chan."
Shuichi stared ahead to see Ouma look at him with a gentle look before hugging him. Shuichi burst into tears. He knew he made the correct choice but it still hurt so much. He's been alone most of his life only ever with Kaede and maybe with Rantaro and Tsumugi on occasion. So to leave her... It was hard.
Ouma kept hugging him, softly whispering things to ease his nerves.
Just let it out,
It's okay,
You'll be alright,
I'm here,
It'll be okay,
After a few minutes of this Shuichi had calmed down a bit. His breath was still a bit shaky. Ouma pulled back letting go of his hand and smiled.
"Are you hungry? Have you eaten anything?" He spoke in a voice of concern. His jokey persona vanished. A part of him believed he was so worried he figured jokes would be bad at the moment. He looked over him with a look that told him he hasn't eaten a lot in a while now. Kokichi kept staring at him.
"I'll make you some breakfast and tea. Hopefully, it will help a bit." he said. Shuichi sat up and Ouma did the same. Kokichi got up going to the kitchen while Shuichi sat on the bed for a moment longer. The room was stuffy, as the window was closed for a while. He could smell faint lavender from the candle which made him feel better. He sat up and changed clothes before going downstairs.
Ouma seemed to be messing around in the kitchen, a sweet aroma invading the room. When he noticed him, he pointed outside.
"Now Saihara-chan, go to the garden to get some fresh air" Ouma chuckled trying to lighten the mood.
Shuichi just nodded. He really wanted to just stay in bed. Forget life and the pain of the breakup. He made his way to the garden and sat at the white table that was outside. It was calm outside and there wasn't a single noise. Even bugs and birds didn't make noise. And it unnerved him. It plagued his mind, it made him feel alone like the world had just left him.
"Saihara-chan!" His eyes opened only to see Kokichi had placed a plate of food in front of him along with a cup of tea. It was French toast with berries and maple syrup. "I made breakfast. But be careful! It might be poisoned!" he joked. Shuichi looked down
"I'd be glad if that's what's there" he mumbled. Kokichi frowned.
"... Don't say that." he said before looking down and tapping his fingernails against the white table "Look I can't say something like 'I know how that feels' because I... I don't. But I...have experience with not eating regularly and hiding emotions. It makes your body go funk," he said looking back at him. Shuichi stayed silent. "I know you haven't eaten in a while... So please eat as much as you feel you can for now" he said nervously. Shuichi nodded. The two ate their food quietly before Shuichi spoke up.
"Why...did you want to have food outside?" Shuichi asked. Ouma looked down, playing with his food.
"Whenever I was sad Kirumi and I had a tea party together. She made it Alice and Wonderland themed and made me stop caring about the people who told me I was nothing" he said stirring his tea "It made me feel at peace so I thought it could ease you up a bit" he said.
Shuichi looked at him and smiled slightly. Kokichi really cared about him.
Why did he care so much about him...he really didn't deserve to be cared about."Hey, you're friends with Rantaro Amami? That's how you reached out to me yeah?" Kokichi asked. Shuichi nodded.
"Do you want them to come over? I could call them and we can hang out?" he asked. Shuichi thought about it before nodding. Maybe Ouma was right.
Ouma smiled pulling out a phone calling Amami as Shuichi ate the french toast he made him.
"They said they'll be over soon. We can watch a movie together" he pointed out. He was trying to ignore all his impulses to throw an 'it's a lie' or a joke. It was still a bit too early for that. Once Shuichi ate, Ouma led him to the living room where he brought cozy blankets and pillows and placed them on the couch. About five minutes later, the doorbell was heard and Ouma went to open it. Rantaro and Tsumugi had come over.
"Hi, Ran-chan, plain girl!" Kokichi greeted as Rantaro and Tsumugi came over.
"Hi Ouma-kun, Saihara-kun" Tsumugi said pulling out ice cream "We bought ice cream for all of us on the way. I know it's cliche but it helps." Tsumugi said before the pair walked over to the couch.
"How have you been holding up?" Rantaro asked placing a hand on Shuichi's shoulder. Shuichi looked at the ground.
"It hasn't been...great." Saihara admitted, in a quiet voice. He hated to admit the fact he still believed a bit that he had made a mistake. Tsumugi hugged him.
"I'm sorry you have to feel like this, but eventually things will get better." She said as she pat his back "There are always silver linings. We can reconnect now and spend more time together if you'd like that." she pulled away smiling. Shuichi smiled at her a bit.
"It takes guts to cut off a toxic person when they play such mind games with you. If you're strong enough to do that, you're strong enough to get through this" Rantaro said in his relaxed voice.
"Thanks, guys... it means a lot to me..." Shuichi said quietly as tears spilled from his eyes. His friends were there for him. He wasn't alone. Tsumugi and Rantaro hugged him, Kokichi who was observing the scene eventually joining in as well, as they all let him know they were there for him.
"Soooo what do you want to watch Shuichi Saihara-chan?" Kokichi asked. Shuichi thought for a bit.
"Umm Bridgerton on Netflix?" he suggested. Ouma nodded as he clicked Netflix and playing the tv show Saihara wanted. The group watched the TV show all under blankets eating ice cream having a Netflix marathon. Ouma smiled seeing that Shuichi looked a bit happier or at least better than he did yesterday.
After a while of watching movies, Tsumugi and Rantaro had to leave, making sure Shuichi knew he could call any time he wanted to vent or ask them to come over.
"I have to go too...I have to see if my idiot roommate hasn't done anything stupid while I was gone." Ouma said. Shuichi looked at him surprised.
"You have a roommate? You never mentioned him" he said. Ouma chuckled.
"Yeah, and he's my step brother too. I'm not really fond of him." His tone was a bit irritated when he spoke of him "Dumb spaceman didn't want to move in but didn't really have a choice." He let out a giggle smiling at Shuichi before noticing the unsure expression on his. Was Shuichi afraid of getting left alone? Kokichi sighed
"Call me if you want me to come over okay? I... I care about you as a friend really." Kokichi said, taking Saihara's hands in his, as a way to reassure him "I've never really been this out of character before so...just know I'm here for you" It was true. Ouma usually had a hard time not joking or lying and cheering people up but seeing Saihara in this state made him him stop. Shuichi sighed.
"O-Okay." Shuichi nodded as Ouma let go of his hands. He was about to go when he turned around.
"...And Saihara-chan?" He said Shuichi looking at him wanting him to continue
"Try to think about how you felt today, okay? See ya!" He said before turning around with a florish and running off.
