*Katerina's POV*
I walked back to my house after my daily eight hours of training. The first six hours, I run around town to build up my stamina, the next hour is spent sword training, and the last, I spend either on hand-to-hand combat or increasing my physical strength. It had always been this way since my brother Ace's death and it had been six months. He was the one to teach me how to use a sword and how to fight, and he was basically the only one who truly loved me. But ever since he died, I barely spoke to anyone and my mother's abuse only became worse.
I was in the alley behind my house when a man approached me from behind. He pushed me to a wall, one hand was on my thigh while the other over my mouth. I rolled my eyes, looks like he hadn't noticed the sword on my back, huh? My hand quickly found the hilt of my sword, skillfully unsheathing it. I held it under his chin and he quickly jumped back.
He stared at the blade for a second before laughing. I raised an eyebrow.
"There is no way a 16-year-old girl like you actually knows how to use a sword," He scoffed, pulling out a pocket knife.
"You sure about that?" I replied monotonously, smirking inwardly but kept a blank expression, ready to fight this idiot.
He charged at me. I sheathed my sword. I don't need a weapon to beat this asshole, I thought to myself. I put my hands in my pockets and kicked him in the face, hearing a cracking sound. I broke his nose, which was now bleeding. He fell to the ground, knocked out. What a weakling.
"I am Katerina Pierce; I never lose," I said, my ice-blue eyes glaring at the unconscious man before walking away.
I arrived home, headed up the stairs to my room silently, and took a shower before sitting on my bed, in front of my laptop to rewatch the last season of Hunter x Hunter. I finished the finale, smiling slightly, and went down, to the kitchen, only to see my adoptive mother standing there, looking angry. My smile dropped at her sight. I sighed and mentally prepared myself to what was coming.
She pulled back her hand and struck, hitting my face hard. It stung, but I barely even flinched; that's what happens after more than ten years of abuse. she hit me again and again before kicking me in the stomach, knocking the breath out of me.
"You useless girl!" She yelled, "You do absolutely nothing useful. You wake up early and head out for eight hours then come back and lock yourself in your room! Don't you ever get tired of your life?"
I don't. But I am, in fact, tired of you. I thought to my self but stayed silent, keeping up an emotionless mask.
She kicked my side then pushed me to the floor, my head barely missing the stairs. I got up only to be shoved towards the kitchen counter, my lower back hitting its corner. Right behind me was a set of silver knives that were never used.
"Even your own parents left you in an orphanage when you were only four, no wonder they didn't want you!" She continued, striking a nerve in me; I don't remember my real parents but I still had the name they gave me -Katerina Pierce. I didn't know what happened to them; whether they were dead or alive, and -if they were alive- whether they wanted me or not. "Not to mention the fact that you are the reason my son died, and now, it's your turn!" My blood was boiling in anger at this point but I still tried to control my rage. Is she really using Ace's death against me? I already blame myself for it and she's only making it worse.
She pulled a knife from behind me and tried to stab me right in the heart, but I was quicker. I dodged, escaping death just in time, but didn't go unscathed; she had stabbed my side, ripping the shirt that my brother had given me last year, and that was my last straw. I clutched my side in pain, biting my lip to stop myself from crying out in anger and pain.
My mother, if she can be even called that, lunged towards me again. I grabbed the arm that was holding the knife and squeezed hard enough to make her drop the blade. With adrenaline pumping through my veins, I caught the knife swiftly, held it above her heart -if she had one, that is- and drove it through her flesh until it reached her heart, blood oozing out of the wound.
"You had it coming to you from the very beginning," I said in a low, cold voice as I watched the light leave her dark brown eyes. "See you in Hell,"
Her body hit the floor with a loud 'thud' before I came back to my senses. I looked from the body to my hands and back in horror.
I didn't regret what I did --it certainly wasn't the first time I got my hands dirty; I had killed a group of men that were attacking me, so it was self-defense-- and I wasn't scared of what might happen to me when someone finds out, but what actually scared me is the fact that I enjoyed it every time I did it.
I just killed my mother. And I enjoyed it.
My body went numb and my back slid down the wall, knees tucked to my chest. I am a monster, and I don't give a shit about it.
I stood up and walked to the stairs slowly, heading back towards my bathroom to wash off all the blood when I remembered the wound in my side. I had forgotten about the pain in my moment of adrenaline, but now that I returned to my senses, the pain was unbearable. I fell to my knees, dizzy from blood loss. The last thing I remember before I passed out was the blinding white light that engulfed me. My eyelids slid shut and I fell unconscious.

A/N: How was that? Was it interesting? Sad? Depressing? Well, doesn't matter. The real plot starts in the next chapter.
