*Earlier that day*

"I've been looking everywhere for you"-Nicole smiled, as she noticed James.
"How was New York?"-he questioned, not wanting to jump right into the breakup.
"It was good to catch up with everyone, but I missed you"-she wrapped her arms around James.
"Not now"-he gently pushed her away-"Let's go somewhere private to talk."
"Are you sure you only want to talk?"-Nicole winked.
"Yeah, what else?"
"Are you okay?"-Nicole touched his elbow-"You're acting weird."
"He's about to break up with you"-Mr. Bitters put in.
"What?! You're lying!"
"And that's why I didn't want to do it here"-James rolled his eyes-"Nicole, can we go?"
"Not until you tell me what's going on!"-she demanded.

James sighed.

"Bitters is right. I've been planning to break up with you for a week now, but you left to New York, so I have to do it now."
"But... why? We're so good together, Jamie. Why would you want to throw it all away?"-Nicole pouted.
"Because I can't be with someone I don't have feelings for"-James explained-"You took my mind off of Emmy for a while, but when she came back, those old feelings returned and I can't keep lying to you anymore."
"She's just using you, can't you see? She's mean to you until something goes wrong in her life, then comes to cry on your shoulder. That's all you mean to her, but I love you."
"You don't know anything about her"-James crossed his arms-"And you can say anything, but I made up my mind. Goodbye, Nicole."
"No, we can't be over like this!"-Nicole begged-"Please don't leave me, James, I love you more than anyone ever will!"
"Here's the problem: I don't"-James freed himself from Nicole's grip and walked away.
"You're so dead, Emmy Stone"-Nicole hissed.

*The next day*

After Leah and Logan came back from their date, Emmy started attacking her best friend with questions.

"Emmy, stop!"-Leah interrupted her-"You're making me uncomfortable with all these questions."
"My best friend just got laid for the first time, how am I supposed to act?"
"A little less crazy?"-Leah suggested.
"I'm just happy for you"-Emmy hugged her-"You overcame one of your biggest fears."
"I know, but let's not make a big deal out of it. Just thinking about last night makes me blush."
"Tell me something that doesn't make you blush. You're like a cartoon character, you're always blushing."
"Logan thinks it's cute"-Leah striked back, blushing even more.
"You can't even say his name without blushing"-Emmy dodged her shoulder-"You're so gonna get married one day."
"What about you and James, then?"-Leah raised an eyebrow.
"We're nothing like you. We only got back together a week ago and we're not planning for long distance. Plus we were never in love with each other."
"Are you sure? Let me remind you that the guys wrote a love song for us, and if that isn't enough for you, James' actions proved his feelings. And I'm sure deep down you feel the same way."
"You know what I feel right now? That I should check on Carlos and my mother because they've been gone for too long"-Emmy grimaced.
"Are you going to apologise to them?"-Leah asked.
"Only if I don't find them naked"-Emmy scoffed.
"Do you really think they would... you know?"-Leah lowered her voice.
"Say it out loud: SEX!"
"Are you talking about last night?"-Logan yelled to them.
"Are you?"-Leah tried to force back a smile.
"Lovebirds"-Emmy commented-"So, does any of you guys know where Carlos and Mama Panya went?"
"No idea"-Kendall lied.
"Don't check Carlos' bedroom"-James warned Emmy.

Emmy's eyes widened. Logan hit James in the head.

"Idiot, we weren't supposed to tell her!"
"Don't you think I know that?"-James hit back.
"No fighting!"-Kendall stepped between them-"James, stop your girlfriend from killing them!"
"She's not going to... wait, where did she go?"-he ran after Emmy, whom he found in Carlos' room, shouting.
"You fucked my mother?! And you... you fucked my best friend?! How could you?!"
"You weren't supposed to find out this way"-Mama Panya tried calming her, while fixing the blanket on herself.
"I wasn't supposed to find out at all, wasn't I? If not for James..."
"You told her?!"-Carlos hit his forehead-"If I wasn't naked right now, I'd punch you."
"It slipped out, okay?"-James defended himself-"Plus imagine how mad she would have been, if she had found out later."
"That's right"-Emmy agreed-"You know, for a moment I thought I should apologise to you, but no cheater deserves my apology. How can you carelessly have sex, knowing you're destroying a family? Our family... or maybe I shouldn't use this term anymore, because no such thing exists."
"Your father cheated on me, too!"-Mama Panya spat-"It really hurt me, especially since I was pregnant with your sister at that time, but I stayed loyal to him... until I met Carlos."
"Please don't blame this on me. I know I'm irresistable, but I had no intention of ruining anything."
"I know, papi, I know"-Mama Panya kissed Carlos' cheek-"I just wanted to say that you made me feel things I never felt with David, but Emmy won't understand."
"When everything around you is falling apart, you would think that at least your family is there for you. But you're right, I was asking too much"-Emmy laughed sourly-"I want the both of you to be happy, but what makes you happy is killing me. You could've handled this differently, but you chose to rub it in my face like it was nothing."

The room fell silent. Everyone was staring at the floor (expect James, who found a mirror), thinking about what's next. A few minutes later, Carlos spoke:

"Panya, this isn't right. You've loved David for years and even made a beautiful family with him. And as much as I want to be with you... I can't stand in the way of that. Emmy has been through a lot, she even lost her sister, I don't want her to lose her parents as well because of me. I would never forgive myself, if I ruined my best friend's life."
"So you're just going to end us like this?"-Mama Panya's voice broke.
"I'm sorry"-Carlos put an arm around her.
"We should leave, Em"-James took his girlfriend by the hand.

Emmy followed him into the living room.

"I hate this"-she collapsed on the sofa.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No, I just wanna... get away from all of this."
"I might just have two plane tickets to Italy"-James grinned.
"What?"-Emmy's mouth fell open.
"I was planning to give them for your birthday, but it looks like you're in need of a trip now more than ever, so I offered"-James shrugged.

Emmy grabbed his face.

"You have no idea how much I'd love that, but I can't accept something like that from you."
"Why not?"
"Because you're spoiling me"-Emmy said.
"I'm not spoiling you, it's just a small gift"-James waved his hand.
"You're crazy!"-Emmy shook her head in disbelief.
"If loving you is crazy, then I'm insane"-James stated. Emmy stared at him without blinking for a few seconds, then kissed him.
"I love you, too"-she whispered between two kisses.
"Emmy, can we talk?"

They looked up to Mama Panya, who was standing there crying. Emmy shot her an annoyed glare.

"I'm not talking to you now, because as you can see, we were in the middle of something."
"Can't I just apologise? I feel horrible"-Mama Panya stepped closer.
"You didn't feel horrible while you were in bed with Carlos, did you? And now you run to me because he chose our friendship over your love affair"-Emmy stood up-"You know what, mother? Go back to him and do whatever you want, because I don't care anymore. Because James and I are going to Italy."
"Hell yeah we are!"-James jumped up.
"But Emmy..."-Mama Panya started.
"I don't have the energy to continue this endless fight with you. Maybe after I come back, we can sort things out, but right now I can't even look at you. So all I'm asking you to do is think about what you've done and decide what you want: a normal family life or this affair with Carlos."
"Well, Carlos doesn't want to do anything with me because of you, so..."-Mama Panya sniffed.
"Then please go back to Dad and try to fix what's left of your marriage"-Emmy encouraged Mama Panya, who nodded, then left the apartment without a word.
"Are you sure this was the right thing to do?"-James turned to Emmy, after the door closed behind her mother.
"The right thing doesn't mean happy end for everyone. Carlos will get over it and our family will be happy again."

I wouldn't be so sure about that, James thought to himself, but instead he shot a reassuring smile at Emmy.

***

Hey guys! I know that this is not one of the best chapters, but I dedicate it to the one and only James Maslow, who turns 30 tomorrow and without him, none of my stories would exist. Plus, to my Hungarian readers, I would like to recommend two very amazing stories. The first is a non-Wattpad story written by my best friend, who is one of the most talented people I know. It's called Angyali Ötös, just google it. And if you love action, mafia and crazy storylines, then read Vérrel írott jelek. You won't regret it. 😉
