Tay Tawan

"What in the world is this??" New looked as confused as I was.

"How am I supposed to know? Your doctor uncle seems like a fishy character....." I mumbled while taking snaps of the pages of the birth file.

Newwie glared at me.

"He is a good man Tay.....I don't know what is all this but I am sure he has a reason......"

"What reason do you think he might have for keeping someone's dead baby's birth certificate in a safe?" I folded my arms near my chest not really understanding New's 'good man'🙄

"Your mom is his cousin......" He murmured

"So?"

"....and he is a doctor......"

"I know he is a doctor..but he is not a gynaecologist...And even then....I am sure that the doctors don't keep birth certificates of kids they deliver, in safes, at home🙄.."

"Maybe not.....but then he was there at the hospital when this baby was delivered....maybe seeing your mom too upset after the death of the baby, he kept this away from her...afterall it would keep on reminding her of the dead baby........ahhhh! I don't know but I don't really see any harm in him keeping the certificate."

"Maybe....but we can only make assumptions." I said staring at the papers.

"Why are you frowning now?" New asked peeking inside the safe. He grabbed something from the safe and clicked a photo.

"It says status - 'Healthy' ........then how did the baby die?"

"There are hundreds of medical reasons why a baby can die after birth. It's not something very strange."
New started folding the file back after I had photographed every single page.

Suddenly, he paused and stared at the birth certificate again.

"What happened? Did I miss something?"

"No......"

"Then?"

"This name.....'Hin'......I don't know why but I have a feeling that I have heard or read this name somewhere."

"That's okay....I am sure this is not the only child in the world with the name 'Hin'..." I said patting his back.

"Hmmm....you are right." He nodded though his face looked unconvinced.

I closed the safe just in time, as we both heard footsteps.
We rushed back to the living room and sat down on the couch as if we had been there for ages😁

"Oh it's you New." I heard a female voice and felt slightly relieved.

"Hello Mrs.Leh how are you doing?" New's tone was respectful.

Mrs.Leh's face almost lit up after seeing New."You brought a friend today..." She smiled

The housekeeper Mrs.Leh turned out to be an elderly lady...nothing less than 65-70...could be even more. But she looked pretty stout and sturdy for her age.

New gave her a wide smile.

"I made Gyoza (Potstickers) today morning, do you guys want to eat some?"

We both nodded, partly because we were both hungry but the main reason being we needed a little more time.

"How much time have you spent here? Everyone treats you as if you are family." I was a little surprised.
