why not? who said he couldn't do what he wanted? surely not his parents. his siblings could care less about his well-being, only if it benefited them.
running away. he had every right to do so. the beautiful city lights grew to be boring once he hit fifteen, that's why the changing scenery outside the window was so mesmerizing. buses weren't his ideal mode of transportation, but the magical feeling that leaving town gave him was worth it. it had been years since he felt so careless.
once his childhood years faded into dark mist in the back of his head, nothing mattered. he was never the favorite in the family. the oldest had always been held in the spotlight, the constant pressure to be like his older brother was almost taunting in a way. the thought of never being as smart as his siblings was a haunting reminder to the disappointed looks he earned from his parents.
he had pushed himself into the adult world at a young age, getting multiple part time jobs as soon as he could. the reoccurring dream of leaving home pushed him to work smarter and harder, never asking his family for anything. if he asked for money or help that's just a debt he'd have to repay later in life.
but his focus was thrown off by the constant 'ding' echoing from his phone.
maybe i should mute it.
the continual messages from friends and family poured in, curious of his whereabouts, but mostly asking for favors. it may have been an evil move, but he had left his tracker on, just to let his family know his general area. to know the city, but never his exact location. it was spiteful and cruel and he loved it. the small, smug, smile on his face lasted even after he got off the shabby bus.
the boy didn't plan this far, he was simply happy that he had enough courage to sit through the ride without getting off and walking back. the night sky was unforgiving, not sparing any light. the male stumbled so far that he eventually made it to the center of the shopping district. seoul? he rode all the way here? he bumped into someone amidst his confusion, looking up with a horrified expression.
the clearly older male he had bumped into was dressed in expensive looking clothes, making the younger boys eyes widen further.
he looked like a deer caught in headlights, light blue eyes glistening with fear of getting kicked or yelled at. his movements were timid, a shaky hand finally reached up to the outstretched hand in front of him. the hand easily pulled him up, the startled boy's confidence that had built up on the ride here was had dissipated completely. the expensively dressed male kept his hand in a gentle hold and tugged him to a little cafe. he pulled him past the ordering counter to a booth in the back. the man sat on one side while the boy sat on the other, startled and nervous of what is to come.
he was looking down at the table when a card of some sorts was slid into his field of vision.
it was for a business. it had a name that read 'Charles Choi' and a number. the man, who he presumed was charles choi, finally spoke. he gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.
'if you can learn how to fight exceptionally well, i will pay you and give you a place to sleep'. the words were on repeat in his head.
with that, he had found stable income and a good place to stay. maybe reading books weren't the best way to learn how to fight, but it seemed promising. the first book he found was on pressure points. each day he read a new book, and each day he gave the chairman a fact. to him the strangest one had to be the pressure points in your feet. his fascination with pressure points was odd, considering he had a fear of being paralyzed. maybe that's what fueled him to actual use them when fighting.
the day came when he met Gun Jong and Goo Kim. the two had a knack for fighting, and were curious about the bodyguards fighting skills. that was the day they developed the fear of being paralyzed, and that's the day the rumors of the king of fighting spread around the streets of south korea.
[i really though i was doing something when i wrong this-]
