Chapter Four

Levis pov

I smile as i bite into the small burger in front of me, the first good meal ive had in what feels like forever. I look up hesitantly to see him glaring at his burger, god that guy is strange.

You see the problem is usually it takes around a day to get to kansas from where we live, however we can only drive a few hours a day, and we have no clue how to get there, so we are pretty much guessing,

and by we I mean him, I stay silent most of the time.

Last time I spoke to him was probably when I suggested asking someone for directions only to get a glare and him remind me of how we're wanted gang members so that shut me up.

The diner is small and clearly run down, but serves decent food so I can't really complain.

"Tell me about yourself." I pause, my burger half way to my mouth, as i look back at him. "I'm sorry what?" His eyes narrow at me. "I said tell me about yourself, anything." I tilt my head.

"I thought you didnt want to be friends." He rolls his eyes.

"I dont, i was just trying to fill the silence and if we're going to be around each other i at least want to know about the guy im with." I put down my burger and nod.

"I uhhh... i have two brothers, Micah who you have uhm have already met and Blake. I've lived in the gang my whole life and its obvious i dont have friends, Im 18 years old and haven't got my phoenix scar"

See, a pheonix scar is a tattoo like scar you get on your body when you and your soulmate feel the same amount of emotion towards each other. Everyones soul gets a soulmate by the age of 2 and fate brings them together when they need each other the most. The two have to feel the same high amount of any emotion towards each other to gain the scar and everyones is custom to them. They glow when you get them, and any time that you and your soulmate feel that same high emotion. They're pretty strange if you ask me.

He nods slowly. "I have no siblings, no friends, no family, im 20 and i have no phoenix scar since there are no good looking girls around." I shrug.

"You could date boys." I freeze as the weight of the words land on me. Oh my god I really just said that oh my god this is it, he's going to kill me, oh my god he's going to-

"Don't you think thats crossed my mind? Kitten does that look like an option when you're part of a gang who will kill you if you look at someone wrong?"

I shake my head slowly. "Yeah it was dumb, sorry." He stares at me for a moment before looking away. "Hurry up, i want to get supplies before we leave." I nod and finish my burger in silence before we head out of the diner.

We walk into the store and i wince at the bright light. The diner light was quite dim and its dark out.

I look at Reese and go to ask a question but quickly stop myself, remembering what happened last time. I wince at the thought of what would happen if i really angered him.

"Tomato or mushroom?" I point to the tomato and he nods. "Its too hot, can i go stand outside?" He shrugs "I don't care." I stare at him and sigh before I walk out the small store into the cool breeze.

I lean against the wall and sigh as i look at the moon. Why me, why am I stuck with this crappy life. I groan, god I should have just ran away or something as a child and become an orphan.

I kick a stone under my feet and go to do it again when I feel a hand wrap around my body as im quickly dragged to the unlit ally next to the store, my whole body frozen.

Im roughly thrown to the ground and the stranger smiles viciously at me. "Oh Blake is going to love this, let me call him."

My eyes snap wide open and I begin to shake my head. "NO WAIT-" I'm interrupted as he picks me up and pins my back against his chest and slaps his hand against my mouth.

I frantically look around, the sound of the phone ringing making my heart speed up. I look around and thats when i see Reese walking to his car. I begin to freak out, trying to get any form of attention. Just before he climbs into his car i manage to move my leg enough to kick the guy holding me in the shin, causing him to yell.

"What the fuck did you-" he suddenly stops. "Let. Him. Go." The feel a shudder fall down my back at Reeses voice. "Listen man, this is our business, stay out of-" A sudden yell pierces through my ears as I'm practically shoved away from him.

"Levi go get in the car and sit on the floor away from the windows, don't move." I hesitate but his enraged look leaves no room for arguing.

I nod and run to the car and follow his instructions. God I can't believe that just happened. Where did that guy come from? Has he been following us this whole time?

I pause. Reese just saved me. He- he went out of his way to make sure I didn't die. But I thought he said every man for himself?

I continue to let the tsunami of thoughts flood my mind, though my attention is suddenly snapped back when i hear the door open. I keep my eyes closed, hoping that if it isnt Reece the person kills me quickly.

I feel the car start moving. Oh my god where are they taking me, what if they- "get up." I sigh in relief at Reese's voice.

I quickly sit up onto the seat and strap myself in as he speeds away.

"Who the fuck was that?" I sigh. "One of my old gang members, his name is kyle" he clicks his tongue.

"What if he tells them where we are? They will split up to find us but im sure they can catch up quickly i-" he groans.

"Stop fucking talking. He wont be telling them where we're going." I wince at the anger in his voice.

"How do you know?" He squeezes the steering wheele. "I just know, now drop it Levi." I stare at him for a moment before sighing.

I look at him out the corner of my eye and feel anxiety rush through my body at the sight of the blood on his hands.

I guess Kyle really won't follow us then...

I stare out the window, trying to figure out if i should be more scared of the people chasing us, or the guy i'm being running with.
