POV: Ally
After my classes Coach Graves said I could come back to her office and chill out there so I didn't run into Catie, and that she would come get me when she got the things she needed before heading to the field since it's best if you drive it with it being on the other side of campus and it would be a thirty minute walk.
She's teaching a class right now, but she left it unlocked for me, so I curled into the same spot I was in before and closed my eyes.
I'm never going back to Catie. Yes, I'm in love with her, but I need to stop. Once a cheater always a cheater. She told me in the beginning that she fucked just about everyone. Both girls and guys. This shouldn't be a surprise to me.
Luckily Maggie has been here for me, because without her today it would not have been good if I ran into Catie. She doesn't even know where I am, especially with me being in our coach's office. But there is no avoiding her tonight on the field.
I decided to close my eyes and take another power nap, but it felt as if as soon as my eyes closed Maggie was waking me right back up. I trust her pretty easily with her being younger. She's only twenty six, and a coach for one of the best softball teams in the state.
"Come on Ally. Time for practice." Maggie rubbed my arm to wake me up gently.
I reluctantly made myself get up and get my things.
"Do you have a ride home tonight?" She asked me as she waited patiently by her door.
"My brother is supposed to come pick me up unless I found a ride." I wiped the sleep out of my eyes.
"I can take you home again. I don't mind one bit. I live about ten minutes from you."
"Are you sure...? You took me home yesterday and I don't want you to feel pressured or anything..." I played with my fingers nervously.
"I don't feel pressured. I'd be more than happy to take you home." She held the door open for me and we walked out to her car. I keep my softball gear in the locker room since it's just easier.
"Thank you, Maggie." I smiled over at her after putting my seatbelt on.
"No problem Ally." She returned a smile.
"Ally, you do some in-fielding drills with us while the other pitchers and catchers go do warm ups." Maggie waved me over before I had to face Catie. She tried to talk to me, but Maggie keeps saving me I guess you could call it.
"Who am I supposed to catch then?" Catie's voice made my heart sting in pain.
"Daisy. You two are really good friends, so you might as well use that chemistry." Maggie gave her a 'test me' look and Catie scoffed before walking over to the bull pins.
I gave Maggie an appreciative smile as I got comfortable around the pitcher's mound.
"Throw it to first, and then to Coach Paul." Maggie nodded over to our fielding coach who stood beside her with a glove and an extra ball.
She hit the first one to me, and I was quick to scoop it up and throw it to first.
This is good for me. I need to distract myself, and Maggie is really helping me right now.
"Ally, can we please talk?" Catie asked me for the tenth time as I closed my locker.
"About what? That you cheated on me when you always said 'I'd never cheat. I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.' Yeah, okay Catie. Keep looking for what else is on the market, because I may not have a lot of self worth, but I at least know that no one deserves to be cheated on. You went on and fucked her, didn't you?" I couldn't even look at her. I needed to stay strong for this.
"I-" I heard her take a deep breath. "Yeah, I did... but only because you said you were done."
"You know, I thought that you would be crying and breaking down like I was, but instead you were fucking another girl." I chuckled to myself. "I was so stupid. So so stupid."
"You're not stupid Ally." Catie grabbed my shoulder and I pushed her off.
"I am stupid. I'm stupid for believing that you loved me. That I was enough for you. That I was your someone. I thought that you just knew that, because you said it. But by all means, go see if you find another someone behind my back." I turned to her, and her face held no sorrow. She obviously slept just fine, because while I had purple bags under my eyes, her skin was just as clear as day.
She didn't have anything to say.
"Goodbye Catie. I hope you find your person, because whatever thoughts that you had about me being the one better go away, because I know damn well that you will never, ever get another chance with me. Even at my weakest point I won't call you." I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder.
"You ready to go Ally?" Maggie asked softly from behind me.
"What, is this your new side hoe? Our Coach?" Catie started to laugh.
I turned back around to her and slapped her. "No, this is my ride home. My ride home who has my back." I went to turn around, but I had one last thing to say. "Have a great life Catie, because I know I will, and it sure as hell won't be with you."
Maggie gave me a proud smile as she held the door open for me. "I'm proud of you. That takes a lot of strength."
Once we got out of the locker room and to the side she pulled me into a hug. "Thank you." I hugged her back, and found myself breaking down in her arms. She made me feel safe in my time of need.
"It's okay hun. I've got you." Maggie held me close and spoke softly, and she rubbed my back soothingly. "I've got you."
