I sit outside and wait for Dylan to emerge from the woods. When he finally emerges from the woods, I was sitting on the back porch waiting. He smiles at me as he walks up, and I stand up and hug him.

"Whoa, what's that for?" he asks.

"Thank goodness you're okay," I say. "I was so worried about you."

"You were worried about me? Kaia, you went missing for a night.  I was terrified that something had happened to you."

"Well, something did," I say. "I was kidnapped."

His eyes widen. "What?"

"Yeah. It was this guy who I went to school with ... his name is Justin. He wanted me for something but I managed to break out and get to my house, where Maya found me. But I was really lucky to be able to get away on my first try."

He looks around. "We should head inside."

"Why? What's wrong?" I ask.

"I think it's gonna storm," he says simply. Dylan walks over and opens the door, then looks at me. "Ladies first."

I smile and feel a furious blush forming. But I thank him and walk through into the house. He follows and I see Maya standing in the kitchen, at the stove.

"We're having breakfast," she says.

"I really hope you mean bacon and eggs and not what I have for breakfast when I am an animal," Dylan says.

I can't help but laugh. He grins at me, his smile perfectly lopsided. I have to look away, as the intense warmth in my chest is making it hard to stand looking at him.

"Yes, Dylan, we're eating regular stuff for breakfast-dinner."

"Okay good," he says.

"Can you take a joke?" Maya asks him.

"Sure."

"Are birds even allowed to like eggs?"

Dylan laughs. "Probably not."

"Okay, sit down. I'll serve you," she says, smirking at us.

"Thanks, Maya," I say.

"Yeah, thanks Maya," Dylan says.
