I talk with Maya and Dylan, and I am exhausted. But I don't want to go to bed yet. We don't talk much about the kidnapping, as I am still shaken up by it. I sit beside Dylan and Maya, and I listen to them talk about various things.

We sit into the night and talk about whatever pops into our heads. After a while, I head up to the bathroom and shower. Then as I step out, I see Dylan in the hallway. He looks a little sheepish.

"It's almost sun up," I say.

"Yep," he says. "When do you even sleep?"

"I could ask you the same thing," I say.

He smiles. I have to try to ignore the little flips that my stomach and heart are doing. Dylan rubs the back of his neck anxiously, and then he looks at my eyes.

"Uh, would you like to ... sorry if this is a bad time, but uh, would you ..." his voice trails off. He shakes his head. "I'm sorry. Uh ..."

"Dylan," I say. "Would you like to go out with me?"

He grins. "Yes. I'd love to."

"Okay, then I will see you sometime tomorrow, okay?" I say. "Then we could maybe do a date or something?"

"I'd love that."

I smile wide. "Alright. I would love that too." I hug him briefly, and then head to bed. But I can't sleep. So I get up and head downstairs, and I'm in the kitchen when I see Dylan walking outside for his transformation.

I've never seen him transform before. But I decide tonight to watch him change again. So I slip out into the outside world after him, and I stop when I see him slip into the woods. I know what he's doing. He's getting ready to shift.

Stepping behind a tree, I watch as he slumps on the ground. He arches his back, and gasps. I bite my lip and grab my pant leg. I don't want him to know I'm here.

He bucks and cries out, and I watch as feathers start to poke out of his skin, and covers him from head to toe. He shrinks into the size of a bird, a hawk, and then his face elongates and forms into a beak. His body is shaking and convulsing hard.

His head whips over and his beautiful, brown eyes land on me. I gasp, he looks so scared. My legs start running for him. I stop when I reach him, and he looks at me one last time before his eyes turn solid black, as he finishes his transformation. Then he flies away.
