"We have to kill her?" I ask, sitting down abruptly on the floor. Dylan hurries to my side and sits, looking at me worriedly.
"What's wrong?" he asks.
"They're saying we have to kill Talia," I say. "Probably her sister too, because they'll just keep up cursing us."
"Great," Maya grumbles.
"Or," Cassie begins, "we could possibly also try to take away her powers. Like kidnap them and preform a ritual on them. Or we could maybe ask the Faeries."
"No, I'm not losing Dylan again," I say.
"And I'm not losing Kaia," Dylan says firmly.
"I'm not saying you'll have to lose each other," she says. "I'm saying that you can always ask them to help."
"We can try that, if you want," I say. "But I don't want to make any deals before I know what they're doing in them. Seeing the fine print, I guess."
"Okay," Cassie says. "Let's go."
We gather our things and head outside.
When the Faeries come, this time, there's only two. A small one that resembles a butterfly and a fish put together with a human head, and a humanoid little girl with long, iridescent hair and a simple white dress. She walks over to where we stand.
"You've called us forth from near and far
To seek out that which you need, a wish on a star
My name is Wisteria
How can I assist you?"
"Hello, sweet Faerie," Cassie says. "We have a few questions to ask you about curses."
"Curses, you say?
They are admittedly not my forte ..."
"Oh," Cassie says.
"But go ahead, ask away."
"Um, okay. How do you reverse a curse that makes a someone hear the voices of the dead?"
The Faeries exchange looks. Then, Wisteria shakes her head.
"I doubt it can be done,
For it takes much to reverse a curse.
But if you need to know how to break one,
Then that is easier."
Wisteria looks at me.
"I assume the cursed one is you?
Tell me the truth."
"Yes," I say. "I'm the one who heard the dead."
"Be careful, it's dangerous where you tread
For not many survive hearing the dead." The other Faerie looks at me and shrugs. It knows what it said is affecting me.
Wisteria shakes her head, stepping closer.
"Not many retain themselves
After hearing the pain of heaven and hell
But somehow, you live,
How?"
"I have Dylan, and I have my sisters," I say.
Wisteria nods and smiles.
"Love does heal all,
Does it not?
Repeat after me,
"I have found what others have sought"
And then I will show you
What you need to see"
"I have found what others have sought."
Wisteria waves her hands in the air, creating a shimmering circle of silver light in the air in front of us.
"Only two at a time may cross the line."
"Go ahead," Cassie says. Maya nods.
"You two, go together. Keep each other safe."
I grasp Dylan's hand and follow him and Wisteria into the portal.
