Jinxed (Completed)

Dylan and I go inside, holding hands as we walk in on a stunned silence from my sisters who returned some time last night.

"We saved him," I tell them. "Dylan's no longer cursed."

"Whoa," says Maya. Cassie grins.

Then, there's a knock at the door. Cassie answers and Clay stands there. He smiles at Cassie, and she smiles back.

"Dylan's cured," she says. "His curse is over. We don't know how, but he didn't turn into a bird or wolf."

Clay's eyes widen. "Really?" He looks at us and smiles at me and Dylan and Maya.

"Yeah. So, what's up?"

"What do you know about Sprites?"

"Like the pop?" I ask.

"No, well, sorta. I mean like Faeries but not quite. Although they'd likely kill me if they heard me say that," he says.

"Yeah, I know. What about them?" she asks.

Clay is lead into the other room with us and we all sit down and talk some more.

"Well, I think we should summon one to see if they know how to heal Kaia "

"But making a pact with the Sprites is dangerous," says Cassie. "They're notorious for the pacts being a trade off. Like something big."

"So she should just have to hear voices all the time?" Dylan asks.

"No," says Cassie.

"Well, I honestly don't mind it. They seem to help me more than usual, as they tell me things I need to know, or if I have to get to someone," I say.

"Kaia, I don't want you to be cursed and me free," Dylan says. "Please. Do this for me, okay?"

I swallow the lump of anxiety in my throat and I nod. "Okay, Dylan. We'll do this."

"How do we do this?" Dylan asks Cassie and Clay.

"We need a few things. Something bitter, something sweet, and some salt, alcohol, and maybe honey or chocolate."

"Do we have all those things?" Maya asks.

"Luckily for you, I do," Clay says. He leaves, then returns with his reusable grocery bag from Wal-Mart. He hands the bag to Cassie. "You up for this?"

"Of course," she says. "Lets go in the woods. We don't know how loud it will be."

We go outside and walk into the woods. We walk over to a clearing and then lay out the items we got. We prepare them for a ritual, and we sit and wait. Moments pass, and then a light breeze drifts through the area. I look up as a female figure appears.

She looks human, save for the six wings sticking out of her back. She hums and flaps them a few times as she eats some of the food. Then she looks up at us.

"You summon me, being me here
Why do you bid me to be near?"

I look at Clay, clutching Dylan's hands. I'm shaking  ... what is this Sprite going to say about my voices? Can she help us fix them?

"We summoned you  here, dear Sprite," says Clay. "I am Clay. My friend here, Kaia, is plagued by the voices of the dead and we want to know how to save her."

"The best way for us to speak
Is to become one with what you seek."

"So you need to do what? Or rather, I suppose us?"

"You need to allow me inside your body
And there, I can see your truth inside you."

"Me, I volunteer," Dylan says.

The Sprite looks at him and nods. Then she's gone. Dylan lets go of my hands and goes rigid. He then turns to me.

"We have the answers that you seek
Now through him do we speak."

"Okay. Um, how do we fix my voices?" I ask the Sprite possessing Dylan.

"We have an agreement to make, between thee and me
A pact that must be made, you see
So tell me, you know what I need."

"Wait. No. You ... you want Dylan?" I ask.

The Sprite smiles.

"His body is nice, I do admit
I can see why you love it."

I blush furiously. "Please ... no. You can't have Dylan."

"It is not your choice to make, my friend
The deal has been struck,
Between us, now say goodbye
Before he dies "

Then Dylan collapses. I catch him and we slide to the ground. Cassie and Maya and Clay comes over to us.

"No, no, please, Dylan, what did you do?"

His eyes open again, and they are brown again. He looks at me. "Kaia. I did this ... to free you."

"Did what?" I ask.

He kisses me hard. I am shocked, but I kiss him back. And then he leans back and sighs. His eyes close. And he stops breathing.
