We ride for a while before the four of us stop at a new hotel. We get two rooms, and have the same pairings as before. This time, we all get rooms on the top floor of the hotel, and since this is not a crappy and cheap hotel, we are going to stay here a while. If we can. Lucky us that the hotel we were at before this one was cheap.

Dylan sits down on the bed by the door and I notice then that the sky is starting to turn light. He looks at the window, and sighs.

It's the sadness on his face that makes me say "I would trade my curse with you if I could. If you absolutely had to be cursed, I mean. I'd prefer to have both of the curses instead of you suffering from this one."

His beautiful brown eyes look at me. "Are you sure? You really would do that for me?"

"Of course I am sure, Dylan," I say. "Why wouldn't I be?"

He shrugs. "I guess I never really gave it much thought before .... the idea of not being cursed."

"Yeah, same here," I say.

Dylan stands up and looks at the door. "I should get going."

I stand up and he turns to me.

"I should go alone."

"Says who?"

He sighs. "It hurts you to look at me while I'm morphing. So why do you insist upon doing it?"

"I insist upon doing it because I want to know what you go through. I ... I feel like I deserve it."

"What do you mean?"

"I feel like I'm the reason why you're cursed. And I know that neither of us really knows why we were cursed in the first place, but I'm pretty sure that it's something simple like Sleeping Beauty or something, something that could break our curses."

"I wish," he says softly. He looks down and I walk over, standing on my tip toes so I can touch his cheek. He looks at me sadly, and I have to wipe away a stray tear.

"I'm so sorry this is happening to you," I say, my voice shaking. "I wish I could take your pain away."

He hugs me. "I'd take yours away in an instant."

I close my eyes and just take in all about him that I can. He has the scent of wind and rain, of fresh air and clean water. Dylan reminds me of your typical love affair in the movies or something.

I mean, girl likes guy, guy likes girl, and then they both get cursed, so that one is able to hear dead people and the other is an animal for half the day. It sounds like a pretty interesting curse.

He steps back and then leaves, and I follow him, down to the ground floor, and into the line of trees close by. Just as we reach the line of trees, though, his transformation begins.

I shield him from the view of regular people and usher him into the trees. He spreads his too-big wings and leaps into the tree, and I watch as he morphs into a bird form once again. I watch as the sun comes up, watching as he changes to no longer resemble himself.

I watch until he's turned into a bird the whole way, and then I head back to the hotel.
