DEFENCE AGAINST THE Dark Arts was one of Lyra's favourite lessons, well, every lesson at Hogwarts was cherished by her. Lyra is exceptional at Defence Against The Dark Arts - she is also very skill in knowledge of Dark Magic, although she'd never use it.

Lyra found herself sat beside Harry on the front desk in the middle row. Harry grilled Lyra as to why she was in this class, before letting up and starting to discuss what they want for lunch. Hermione turned to speak with the pair, the sound of wood on the stone floor made the classroom silent.

An odd looking man began to walk to the blackboard. His hair colour was light and grey, a false eye - which moved with his other - was held with a leather strap wrapped around his head.

"Alastor Moody." He announced, scrawling his name on the blackboard, "Ex-auror. And your new Defence Against The Dark Arts Teacher. I'm here because Dumbledore asked me, end of story - goodbye, the end." The classroom remained in silence, Harry and Lyra shared a concerned look.

"When it come to the Dark Arts, I believe in a practical approach." He announced, a sense of giddiness in his voice, "But first, which of you can tell me how many unforgivable curses there are."

The classroom was still silent, Lyra knew the answer. In fact, many of the students did, but nobody dared move a muscle.

"Three, sir." Hermione finally said.

"And they are so named?" He asked, writing in the blackboard.

"Because they are unforgivable, the use of any one of the will -." Hermione was cut off.

"- earn you a one way ticket to Azkaban, yes." Professor Moody finished. "Now, the Ministry says you're too young to see what these curses do, I say different. You need to know what you're up against, you need to be prepared." He said with fiery passion.

Harry turned to Lyra, his green eyes voiced his concern and confusion. She leant into him, and whispered under her breath. "You've almost been killed by a mad-man twice, I think we know what we're up against." The two snickered.

"You need to find another place to put your chewing gum besides the underside of your desk, Mr Finnigan." His voice became louder with each word.

Everyone turned to face the Irish Gryffindor, for once, looking at him when he wasn't covered in soot. "The old codgers got eyes in the back of his head." He mumbled to a fellow Gryffindor.

A piece of chalk was whizzed towards Seamus, who narrowly missed it. "And he can hear across classrooms." When a second piece of chalk was sent for Seamus, it didn't get close. Unlike the first time, Lyra forgot to duck and was greeted with the piece of chalk landing harshly on her cheekbone.

"Merlin, that hurt." Lyra winced letting Harry check for any visible mark - he only told her that it would no doubt leave a nasty bruise. Professor Moody didn't even apologise.
