LYRA WOKE UP bleary eyed on the morning of the first task, the cold November wind had awoken her from it cold, brutal nips. She couldn't find her way back to sleep, she watched her fleeting dream run away when she stumbled to get herself ready; at five in the morning.
The castle was deserted when Lyra shuffled out of the kitchen, a goblet of tea clutched with both of her hands. The steam fogged her glasses, but she didn't care to see the world through clear lenses. The sunrise looked much nicer through a misty haze.
Being alone with her thoughts always turned cynical, somehow, she could never avoid it. Lyra pulled her robe around herself tighter, and shuffled back slightly on the ledge. Her half empty tea rested beside her.
With frozen and numbing fingers, she gripped the cold ledge from underneath her. Tentatively, she lent forwards looking over the drop, around fifty feet of empty air. The wind whipped through her unbrushed hair with difficulty, stinging the pale skin of her face.
Adrenaline shot up her spine, an itch crawled under her skin was she pulled back, watching the ground disappear.
"You seem like you could use some company." The voice brought warmth through her body.
Lyra patted the stone beside her, Cedric clambered onto the ledge; hissing at the cold the enveloped his body. She smiled from behind her goblet.
"Lyra," Cedric placed his hand on her cheek, swiping away a few fallen tears, "Why're you crying?"
She sniffled and pulled a hand away from the warmth of her cup, dabbing under her eyes to feel the salty licks against her cheeks. "Didn't notice."
Cedric put his arm around her shoulder, Lyra dropped her head onto him and closed her eyes, basking in his warmth. He was already dressed in his mustard yellow robes, 'Diggory' written in black across the back.
"Nervous?" She whispered.
"Extremely."
"I'll come and see you after you," Lyra furrowed her brow, "After whatever you're doing."
Cedric presses a kiss to the crown of her head and rested his head on top of hers, tightening his arm around her.
It was comforting, homely almost. Lyra counted the dying trees on the horizon. Seven coated in orange and burn red leaves, three already dead and one coated with pink flowers.

Sitting in the wooden stands made Lyra's stomach churn almost painfully. Blaise and Theo were no help, instead they made her feel better and worse at the same time, if that was even possible.
Theo's arms were locked around Daphne tightly, taking in each others warmth. Blaise tried to mimic their actions with Lyra, he was unsuccessful, six times over.
