As the sister of Spot Conlon, [y/n] had high expectations. To be a fearsome leader like him, that's what he'd wanted. Though [y/n] couldn't be fearsome for her own sake.
Sweet, generous, and easy-going. [y/n] was the complete opposite of her brother. The girl with the pretty face. But she was only known as that. No matter how hard she tries, all anyone sees is a pretty face. It was almost as if it was labeled right on her forehead. That was what [y/n] was known for.
That was until Racetrack came into her life. The day [y/n] met him, she couldn't help but smile. The girl was buying a newspaper from him, despite being a newsie herself. It was to draw. She didn't consider herself a good drawer, but it was an outlet to get feelings out.
And besides, she always had lots of money to spare. Though all newsies somewhat live a life of poverty, [y/n] was at least more on the fortunate side of the spectrum. With her looks, the money seemed to come towards her easily.
Still, [y/n] didn't expect to become so infatuated with him after the first encounter. His small flirts made her smile and laugh, and the touch they had when [y/n] handed him a nickel sent a shock through her body. The shock didn't hurt. Actually, it was quite calming. Possibly addictive.
"Do you always sell here?" [y/n] asked, a grin seemingly stuck on her face.
"Why? You in love with me already?" Racetrack laughed in response.
Her face heated up.
Did she...?
"Hah, no way." She joked, nudging him slightly despite barely knowing him. "Anyways, is that a yes?"
"Yeah." He replied. "Why?"
"Eh. You can find out tomorrow." She flashed him a toothy grin before she walked back to the Lodging House.
Her "home".
But she kept seeing him. Over. And over. And over. It was so comforting to see Racetrack. The way he puffed his cigar, or the way he took off his cap to run his fingers through his styled, ebony hair, or even just how he sold to other customers. Every day she talked to him, the more she realized her feelings were growing.
It was a miracle [y/n]'s brother never found this out. No doubt she would get yelled at. And, frankly, [y/n] would feel terrible being yelled at. But there was no way in hell that she would give up her time with Racetrack.

The morning was clear. Sunny. A perfect day.
[y/n] quickly approached Racetrack after she sold all her papers, eager to see the boy she steadily became in love with.
"Heya Flor. If it ain't the angel on earth." Racetrack laughed, which was absolutely hypnotic to [y/n]. "What can I get ya today?"
Flor. The name he affectionately called her. It made the butterflies in her stomach practically soar just to hear him say the simple word.
