TW: Mentions of suppression and repression, I guess stress????
The voices were back. He shivered. The room temperature was back too. He rushed to the Imagination door and threw it open. He rushed in, tearing through the fields of flowers that withered beneath his touch.
He ran his fingers through his hair in stress. Who should he tell? Not the sides, who knows how they'll react.
He sensed someone behind him. He turned around.
Mariel. His Fairy Godmother.
"Are you okay, Romulus?" She asked. She didn't seem very bothered about the dead flowers beneath her feet.
"Roman." He corrected, gritting his teeth as he kept glitching.
"Ah yes, I forgot. It's just that you're glitching."
"Thanks, I hadn't noticed," He said, sarcasm oozing from his voice.
Mariel rolled her periwinkle eyes.
She straightened her flower crown and gestured for him to follow her.
He didn't see any other option, so he followed her.
They ended up at a cafe. They sat down at the table and drank some coffee.
"Suppressing your insecurities can only work so long. Julius learned that the hard way."
"But it's the only way to stop the glitching!"
"No, if anything, it's just building up for more glitches. You're building up more glitches."
He eyed the fairy tiredly.
"The best course of action would be to tell the other sides." She stated, after a short think and a sip of coffee.
"What?!"
She pushed her ebony hair from her face, a habit of the fairy's.
"You've been containing so many thoughts and secrets, it's a wonder you haven't been outed by your brother or Janus or even Virgil." She thought about it for a moment, "Maybe not Virgil, I'm not sure he's all that bright"
Roman choked on his coffee. "Since when have you been judging the sides?"
She ignored the question, "In any case, suppressing or repressing will just cause much more trouble than what you intend."
"How do you know all this stuff?"
She raised an eyebrow, "Do you need to know, or is it a question"
"My gosh, you're like a mother."
"Exactly."
Mariel gripped her cup a bit tightly. "If you need support, I could come out of here, but I haven't done it since Julius...split"
Roman looked down at his own cup.
"I'm not exactly sure how they would react to a tall fairy woman." She chuckled, sipping from her cup.
"...It would be nice to have some support. But how can you leave the Imagination?"
"Julius' creations are as real as everybody else. I'm as real as you and the sides. The mind palace is as real as we are. Elphaba is too. We can leave, and we are also unchangeable. So I guess you could say we're figments."
"Figments..." He mumbled.
"Yes, I don't need an echo. Now, if you please, let's go."
I hope you're enjoying this one-shot book
