Roman was looking at himself in the mirror, straightening his sash and smoothing down his princely costume.
Then it happened.
His sash darkened.
A blindfold circled his eyes.
The familiar chained shackles encircled his neck and wrists.
His hair was bright white.
His costume was black.
He almost screamed, but he was back to normal. He must've been hallucinating, but he wasn't so sure. He nervously straightened his sash.
He was, of course, the first to breakfast. No surprise, since Roman was the one who usually cooked. Sometimes Patton did, but it was usually baking.
He started cooking breakfast and heard somebody groan for the couch.
"Hello, Virgil, nice to see that you've experienced the horror of a sore back." He joked, flipping the pancakes to cook on the other side.
"Oh shut up, will you?" Virgil grumbled.
Roman felt the stirs of insecurities that hadn't been this present in a long time.
He mentally shook off the feeling and finished cooking the pancakes.
"Why six?" Virgil asked.
Roman's smile froze.
"We've had a- um, new member join the table," He stuttered, keeping his eyes away from Virgil's own.
"Who?" Virgil's voice was almost frosty.
But just to Roman's relief, then horror, Janus walked into the kitchen.
"Him!" Virgil hissed out, and Roman cringed.
Janus eyed Roman warily, but Roman pretended there was nothing wrong, dishing out the first pancake to him.
His eyes blinked rapidly as if something was wrong with Roman. Roman casually took a look in a hand mirror he'd left on the counter the other night. He seemed to be glitching. Fear rose up and he banished any insecurities into the back of his mind.
He stopped glitching.
"The syrup is there, and you can add whatever to the pancakes, just ask!"
Remus popped out of nowhere and Roman instinctively threw the pancake he prepared for Remus at him. He hadn't done that for a long time. He prayed that he wasn't glitching.
"Begone you nasty creature!" He shrieked, and Remus almost looked shooketh, but the trashman decided shoving the pancake messily in his mouth and giving the double bird to Roman.
Eventually, Logan and Patton came down.
And then it happened again. His form glitched fast and stayed almost five seconds in his...old self.
Logan almost dropped his book, Patton's eyes widened. Virgil's brow furrowed and Janus looked slightly concerned.
"Roman, are you alright?" Logan asked, and Roman forced a smile.
"Quite diddly dandy! Why do you ask?" He lied, before rapidly saying "Well whatever, I'll head out now!"
He rose up in his room, slouching against the door. The room had been glitching too. He covered his ears.
He was scared.
He didn't like to admit it, but he was.
Why was he reverting?
Why was it happening?
How was it happening?
