Chapter 1

"I love you but I just can't forget about my ex" He whispered and kissed my cheeks, moving for my lips next.

"Stop Ash." I frowned and made an attempt to pull away although I was drunk enough to give into my sexual instincts.

"Why?" He asked.

"Because you don't love me and you don't deserve my first kiss." I said and pulled away as I went towards my best friend, Mable. She is my best friend and I love her so much it hurts sometimes. She was standing near the stage listening to the slow song which was being played by a band I didn't know. As I went near her...

"SAGE!" It was mother's voice. What is she doing here?

"SAGE WAKE UP" Mother screamed and I woke up, realizing that I was having yet another dream about my stupid crush and the night I went to my first music festival.

"Sage please get ready, It's getting late and it's your first day of school! Please don't forget to put on some make up in order to hide your baggy eyes and your acne-pronish face otherwise everyone will make fun of you." She said matter-of-factly as I rolled my eyes at her. She's not a normal mom or so I think because I don't know how other moms treat their children when I'm not hanging out with them.

I groaned as I tried to move my pressed to the comfortably warm bed body. I went to the bathroom and obviously made myself a cup of coffee because as Lorelai Gilmore would say "I need coffee as much as my oxygen". The uniform they made for this year was a pain in the ass because of the color. It was light gray and it made me look much thicker than I already was. I put on my uniform and brushed my light brown, almost hazel colored hair. I was so lucky that my hair matched my eyes as they were both kind of the same color which made my eye color stand out even more after a single application of mascara. I finished getting ready and called a cab.

This year was going to be unpleasant and I already felt it deep in my bones. When I heard that Asher was going to attend my school this year, I almost had a mild heart attack. Asher smelled like trouble and he really was. After the whole rejection episode, I was due to move back to Ohio for summer in order to stay with my dad for my break and it was not fun. At all. Period. I hate my life in Ohio although my best friend whom I've known since 9th grade lives there. The thing is that life there with my father is just so black and white and I usually find myself trying to find a way to escape the dreadful days there.

As I arrived, I felt a rush of excitement mixed with anxiety. Although I feel very bad about the year ahead, I still have Mable and Sadie in my life to help ease the pain I feel on a daily basis because of my psychotic mother. I met both of them and we hugged each other while squealing because of the excitement we felt for starting another year of high school. The school was having this welcoming show where people stood in lines and got ready to enter another year of their life in high school. I jumped out of my thoughts when Mable poked me.

"Sage I think Asher is here" She pointed at the crowd on the far end from where we were standing. I looked more carefully and there he was, standing in the school uniform and walking like the stupid idiot that he is. Since he was so far away I decided to ignore him for the rest of the welcoming show.

The classes went by in a flash because the teachers decided to let us off since it was our first day. After the bell rang, me and Mable decided to smoke a bit in our usual hang out place which was a walk away from school. Everyone gathered there when they finished their classes in order to smoke or hang out. It was a gazebo-shaped space which was big enough to handle at least 9 people. I lit up a cigarette and just as I was taking my first drag I saw Asher.

"Hey guys what're you doing?" He stood in front of me and Mable with his hands in his pockets. The sun was hitting his face and I couldn't help but notice his mars-colored eyes. I tried so hard not to swoon. Eyes are a huge turn-on for me because I firmly believe in "Eyes are windows to the soul".

"None of your business, Ash" Mable said with a teasing voice as I tried to control myself and took my second drag.

"Well no it's not but I was hoping to get a cigarette" He smirked and stared at me. I rolled my eyes at him and offered him my pack where he took 3 cigarettes.

"Hey! I paid for those. At least take two!" I said with a frown. He shrugged.

"I took one for my friend" His eyes lit up and he looked mysterious as if he wanted to say something.

"What friend? You already found friends in school? That's news!" Mable said.

"No. He's not from our school. He's actually in uni and he just came back from his summer break so I'm gonna meet him up after this. We're heading to a place near the lake. Do you wanna join us" He said. It was weird because his lips were twitching as if he was holding back an evil grin. I looked at Mable and she nodded her head in agreement meaning that it'd be okay for us to go with them for a hang out.

"Alright. We'll change in the lockers and call you in 10 minutes" I said and thanked god for bringing casual clothes with me for emergency hang outs.

"Cool. His name is Ace by the way and he is single" He looked at us and smiled teasingly. SO that's why he was smiling the whole damn time. Stupid Asher. I rolled my eyes at him.

"None of us are interested in stoners Ash so forget your made up fairy tales babe" I said as I linked my arm with Mable and moved towards the school lockers without giving him a second glance.
