Layla pov
"No don't eat that!" I said rushing to my three year old child as she chewed on my phone charger. I quickly grabbed it from her little hands and put it away.
All day I've been rushed and busy trying to get stuff done. JJ, my boyfriend and our kids dad, was at work until five and I had a whole list of things to get done while also watching our two kids.
There was Jacob who was five years old and Payton who was three years old. It was a handful to be with them all day.
"Jacob!" I called trying to get him out of the play room. I heard his little feet stomp on the ground.
"Yeah mommy." He mumbled as he ran into my legs.
"Can you please go see if daddy's home?" I asked him. He quickly nodded and ran to the front door.
"Daddy's home!" I heard his high pitched voice shout. Then I heard the cry's from Payton. If there was one thing she hated it was loud noises. Yelling, dropping something, music, the tv, if it was to loud for her she'd be sobbing.
"Oh honey it's ok." I said gently, picking her up. "Shh daddy's home! We don't want him to see you crying right away do we?" I asked her trying to get the tears to stop.
"Sorry." Jacob mumbled behind me catching my attention. I was about to respond that it was ok but JJ walked in.
"Daddy's home!" He said excited and dropped his bag on the floor. Payton just sobbed and sobbed. I was to occupied with her to see Jacob running over to his dad and engulfing him in the biggest hug he could give him.
"Hey beautiful." JJ said coming up behind me as he kissed my cheek.
"Hi." I breathed out tired from today.
"Awe why are you crying babygirl?" JJ asked as he stroked Payton's head.
"Jacob yelled and then you came home and yelled." I sighed and held her closer to me.
"I'm sorry." He said sheepishly.
"I'm just gonna take her upstairs to calm down, feed Jacob dinner please." I said. Turning on my heels I walked right up the staircase to Payton's room.JJ pov
I watched her walk off with Payton. I felt bad that she spends all day with the kids while I work. It was a lot of stress on her.
"Daddy I'm hungry." Jacob said gaining my attention.
"Ok." I smiled picking him up in my arms. "Would you like some Mac and cheese carrots?" I asked him as I pulled out a box. He gave me a nod. I set him down to sit on the bar stool.
"I want mommy to make it." He said as I put water in the pot.
"Mommy's busy right now so I'm going to ok bub?" I asked continuing to cook.
"No! I want mommy to make it!" Jacob wined much louder. I sighed and turned to him.
"Jacob she's busy. I'm making it tonight and it's going to taste the exact same." I said slowly growing irritated.
"No!" He wined throwing a tantrum.
"Babe!" I called trying to get her to come down here. I didn't hear an answer so I walked up to Payton's room.
There sat in the rocking chair, Layla and Payton. Payton was cuddling up on her chest and dozing off.
"What?" Layla asked confused why I needed her. I let out a sigh and ran my hands down my face.
"Jacob wants you to make his Mac and cheese not me." I said leaning against her door frame. She rolled her eyes and nodded. I watched her put Payton to sleep and then follow me downstairs.
"Jacob What is wrong?" She asked standing in the kitchen with me.
"I want you to make dinner." He said pointing to the box of Mac and cheese.
"I will, but you know daddy can it make the same why I do." She said. Jacob just shook his head.
"Well daddy's making dinner tomorrow because we're grilling so is that can be an issue?" She asked him placing her hands on her hips. He immediately shook his head no.
She gave him a nod and turned to the stove.
"How do you even do that?" I asked baffled by my it all.
"I spend a lot of time with them. I guess they just listen to me." She shrugged.
"They don't hate me right?" I asked worried. She dropped the spoon she had in her hand.
"Of course they don't hate you!" She said confusion written all over her face.
"Feels like it does sometimes." I said shrugging this time.
"Babe." She started but I stopped her.
"Think about it! He wants you to make dinner not me. I can never get Payton to stop crying like you do. And then when you got all stern with him he just listened! I tried to do that but he just wined and wanted you!" I said throwing my hands up.
She gave me a look of sympathy and hugged me. "Baby they love you so much. They always talk about you when your gone you know that?" She laughed. I didn't know they did that. "Jacobs always asking when will daddy get home and he'll just sit there and wait by the window sometimes when it gets around the time you'll be home. And Payton is a toddler babe. She does what she wants when she wants and even if she's doing what she wants she'll still cry about. It's just what kids do." She said to me.
"I'm just always worried I'll end up like my dad." I sighed out. I wanted my kids to never ever feel like I felt when I was growing up.
"JJ stop that." She scolded me. Her scold made me laugh. "What is so funny?" She asked raising a brow.
"You scolded me like I was one of the kids." I laughed. She playfully rolled her eyes at me.
"Oh stop." She smiled and pushed me away.
"Daddy!" Jacob said running into the kitchen and stopping our conversation.
"What's up bub?" I asked him.
"Come see my legos! I built it today." He said grabbing my hand with his much smaller hand. He pulled me towards his LEGO set up.Y/n pov
I watched as they walked off over to the legos. I wish JJ would stop thinking that he's going to end up like his dad. We've had Jacob for five years and JJ hasn't once shown any personality like his dad did. However I don't think JJ always realizes that.
"Ok guys dinner!" I called putting it onto plates and setting it on the table.
"Did you make it?" Jacob asked eyeing the food as he came back from his toys.
"Yup just the way I always do." I said sitting down. He gave a big smile and sat down also. JJ day next to me as we all talked about our day.
"So who's coming tomorrow?" He asked me.
"What tomorrow?" Jacob asked interrupting us.
"The grill out remember? You're gonna see your aunts and uncles." I said smiling at him. "Anyways." I said turning back to JJ. "John B and Sarah will be there with their kids, Pope and Kiara will also be there but I'm not sure if their bringing Landon. Kie said he's been super fussy because his teeth are coming in and she doesn't want him to cry the whole day." I said.
"So who's gonna watch him?" He asked confused.
"Oh! Kiaras mom." I shrugged. I felt bad that Landon wouldn't be there but I guess it'll be nice not having a teething baby cry all the time.
"Mommy I'm done." Jacob said pushing his plate towards me. I looked at him and saw he didn't eat his carrots.
"You need to ear the carrots." JJ said pushing his plate back to him.
"But I'm not hungry anymore." He wined.
"One carrot that's all I ask." JJ said. I wish he would've ate all the carrots but he was full so one will be fine. Jacob sighed and ate the carrot.
"Thank you." JJ said to him as he finished.
I let Jacob go play with his toys again.
"See he listens to you." I said nudging his shoulder.
"Yeah he did huh." JJ said hopefully realizing that his kids do love him.
"Come on lets clean up." I said stopping our conversation and standing up. I collected the plates.
"I got this you go sit down." He said stopping me before I could walk away from the dining table. I looked at him kinda surprised.
"Ok. Thanks baby." I said and kissed his lips. I guess I'll just relax then until he's done.JJ pov
I put away the last dish and dried my hands. Layla hasn't come back into the kitchen so I assume she's watching tv.
Walking into the living room I saw Jacob, now on the couch, with his mom. Both of them asleep and the tv still on. I immediately woke Jacob up because I new if he slept now he wouldn't later.
"Buddy wake up." I said moving him to my lap. He rubbed his eyes and looked up to me.
"Mommy fell asleep." He sighed as he crawled to the empty spot between us.
"Yeah we gotta be silent now." I said to him trying to be as quiet as possible. I didn't want to wake her up.
"Goodnight mommy." Jacob whispered and kissed her cheek. I smiled at their interaction together. I really loved my kids, and I knew deep down that'd I'd be ok. I wouldn't turn out like my dad. I knew that my kids had the best relationship with their mother and I too.
