Chapter 60: Search

Amaraito was dead. We'd all watched him die right before us, without having a chance to stop him. Although I'd seen death before, most of the 1-A students hadn't.

Midoriya was the only other one who'd seen death up close in our class, and that was a hero who had more or less given his life to save others.

Everyone was pretty shaken up, a fair few injured, but no one was in worse shape than Tokoyami. Both physically and mentally. His friends have been hurt because of a man that wanted to kill him, and now that man just died in front of him.

There were about a dozen police officers asking them all questions about what just happened, and if they needed any medical assistance. Kirishima was brought to one of the ambulances and taken away.

Tsu arrived a few minutes after me and asked, " Alex-Chan, what happened? Did you beat him? "

" I'm not sure exactly, I only got here a few moments before it was over. One thing for sure though, he was powered up beyond anything I've ever seen before... And then he just poofed into thin air. "

There were still some trees on fire and some patches of grass from the beam, so they sent over the fire brigade who got there a few minutes later.

We went over to Tokoyami, who had a blanket around him and was vaguely staring at the ground. I put my hand on his shoulder.

" You doing ok man? " Was all I really knew what to ask.

Obviously, he wasn't. " I... Failed to protect my friends. "

I sighed, " I know what that's like... But look, we have help here now, and you never have to worry about him again. "

It was then that I realised how much of a hard case I was myself. What can you say to comfort someone in a situation like this? In his eyes, he was too weak to protect us from someone who only wanted him dead.

" And even though I wasn't here, I know what you're like. You did everything you could against him, didn't you? You have nothing to be ashamed about. " Tsu said.

" I made a deal with Dark Shadow. " He came out and said.

We asked him what he meant, curious as to what he could've done.

" I told him that our situation was desperate, and that if he could endure this last fight, I wouldn't call him out until he was ready again. With the damage he sustained, I don't know how long that will be. "

Who knows how long it's for, but he'd lost Dark Shadow for an indeterminable amount of time. Thankfully he didn't have to worry about Amaraito though.

" Well... There's proof that you couldn't have done any more. You went above and beyond to protect your friends, even at your own cost. You went plus ultra. " I said, smiling softly at him.

" What if I just ran away though? I could have drawn him away from everyone, and no one would have been hurt. I don't even know the girl over there who came with Shinsou, and half of her body is... I-is... " Tokoyami struggled to even finish his sentence, it looked like he was going to throw up.

Tsu jumped in, " That's Tokage! She's fine, she will regenerate, that's her quirk. Don't worry! "

Both of us were trying to calm him down, this reunion turning out to be a massive disaster, not just for us, but for the park itself. It was going to take a few repairs to get the place fixed up for the public again.

The police started checking everyone's hero licenses too. I obviously didn't have one, but I wasn't involved in the fight since I was too late, so I dodged a bullet there. I transformed back to normal too before they noticed. For official purposes, I did nothing illegal.
