It was late at night, a little before midnight, when we started our stakeout mission. The Lurkers and I were in a car, parked outside an alleyway in the Shiketsu region. Just before leaving, I had texted Tsu saying that I wouldn't be home for a while.
I had asked her to tell the others if anyone asked so that they weren't worrying about me, but I switched my phone off just to be safe. I just kinda sat there in the back left of the car, opposite Mount Lady, not really sure what to do with myself.
"So... Do we all just sit in here and look for suspicious activity?" I asked, after a few minutes of silence.
"Pretty much." Edgeshot said.
"Wouldn't it be better if we split up and looked for clues?"
"We'd need a talking dog to become the Mystery Incorporated."
I think he was hoping for at least a chuckle from us, but after another awkward silence, he continued.
"As I already stated before our mission, we're taking it easy, making sure it's safe before doing anything, so that we're not putting you at risk. On top of that, if we were to go out and about, the villain could potentially see us and retreat before being spotted."
After yet another few minutes of silence, Edgeshot must have been thinking about what I'd said since he told us, "It is rather impractical to have four of us sitting in the car. I'll use my quirk and sneak up to the rooftop and look from there. I'll report back if I find something."
Kamui told him to be careful, to which Edgeshot nodded, as he got out of the car through a slit in the window instead of opening the door to reduce noise. I stretched, yawning a little bit, to which Mount Lady offered me a magazine.
"I'm good, thanks. Although I suppose whilst we have nothing better to do, why not get to know each other a little better? How did you come to know Kamui and Edgeshot?"
She shrugged, "We just met through hero activities and decided we made a great team so hung out more and did missions together."
I nodded a little, not really impressed with the minimalistic response, and unsure how to continue the conversation.
"So, uh... Kamui, what do you like to do in your spare time?" I asked, desperately trying to avoid silence.
"I don't get spare time." He said blankly, looking at our surroundings.
I chuckled awkwardly, "Yeah, I get that. But like, what do you enjoy doing?"
"Protecting people and taking villains off the streets."
I was just about ready to go to Edgeshot just so I could launch myself off whatever building he was on until he came back moments later with a report.
"Activity spotted a few hundred meters away. It's him. Let's go."
Getting killed by a villain sounded like a much better option than sitting in the car alone with those two, so I quickly teleported out of the car as Mount Lady and Kamui used the doors like normal people.
Edgeshot immediately started running towards the scene of the crime as the other two ran after him without saying a word. I kept up behind them, staying silent as we started hearing sounds of a skirmish taking place. A woman with hardly any clothes on ran past us, crying for help.
She had long brown hair and tears streaming down her face. She collapsed into Edgeshot's arms, speaking too fast for me to keep up, hysterically sobbing.
Apparently, she told us about the fight and pointed in the direction of where it was. Edgeshot told Mount Lady to escort the woman to the nearest police station and to let us handle the rest. She did as she was requested and took the crying woman with her.
