It was a minute before nine, and everyone was fast asleep. Copper who came back to rest his eyes was in his marshmallow bed, everyone else asleep in beds that were either cotton, tissue, or polyester. Blankets were usually microfiber cloths for glasses, cut up silk, or even clothes that have been thrown away. Aqua snuck out from her small house, and tiptoed to the elevator, Mid being the only one to notice Aqua leave the rest of them behind. Up to the top she went, preparing to see Metal.
As the elevator came to a stop, Aqua hopped off, giving herself a three-sixty view of the roof at night. "Aqua, you're here! I was having doubts that you were gonna come at all" Metal shyly wandered, fidgeting with his hands with nervousness. "The truth is, I wanted to show you what others have been missing when it's night time, and everyone decides to sleep" Metal noted, covering Aqua's eyes, and leading her to the edge of the roof. "Sit here" Metal informed her, Aqua listening.
Metal sat down beside her, taking out some minced fruit he stole from one of the human's shops, and setting it aside between the two. Up above, there were dozens of stars that lit up the royal blue sky, some of them twinkling brighter than others. "Okay, you can open your eyes now" Metal instructed her, Aqua slowly fluttering her eyes open to gaze upon the beautiful streets lit up by lights inside. There were people down below with many different colored umbrellas.
Drizzles of rain smacked on the ground, Metal pulling out an umbrella that he made himself, handing it to Aqua for safety measures. "You may be a water lumalight, but better to be safe than sorry" Metal hinted, Aqua taking the umbrella, and shielding herself from the drops the size of her whole body. Metal was left unfazed by the rain, most of it helping to rinse off the dirt from a hard day of work. "Fruit?" Metal asked, Aqua helping herself to the half piece of grape in the basket.
Metal munched on some apricots, admiring the view from high above the other buildings. Aqua felt her heart explode with colors, her eyes were happy to see something so colorful after being underground for a couple of days. "So, how you like the view?" Metal questioned the always wondering Aqua. Aqua squinted her eyes with excitement, revealing that she adored it. Metal hummed with content, happy to share the view with someone. A radio down below began playing in perfect time.
It was five minutes after nine, and the radio of an old antique shop began playing, the music reaching above to fill Metal and Aqua's invisible ears. "Oh! I love this song!" Metal jumped around, dancing to the melody. Aqua watched with amusement, clapping along to the beat as Metal pranced around. "Come on, you'll like it!" Metal speaks, taking Aqua's hand, and dancing with her in the rain of night. After the song finally finished, Metal and Aqua sat down, the two exhausted.
"Those were some pretty nice dance moves! You'll have to teach me one day!" Metal remarked, Aqua rolling her transparent pupils, and grinning with the mouth that was not there. The streets quieted down, and the rain filled the silence in the air. "Aqua, I hope you don't think of me as this weak and senseless person, I just never got to share this with anyone for the longest time" Metal sighed, looking down at the sidewalk where people ran quickly to their homes.
His eyes narrowed down to a droopy sad expression, Aqua there to notice the pain in his eyes. "No, I think you're really nice" Aqua spoke, Metal startled since he didn't expect Aqua to speak at all. "You got your voice? That's amazing! I'm happy you can speak now!" Metal cheered, his face covered with tints of pink. Aqua shyly smiled with her eyes, both her hands sitting on her lap. "I'm happy you have a voice because I wanted to ask you something," Metal said, averting his eyes.
Aqua was open to listening, and Metal did not hesitate to pour out every ounce of what he's had on his mind since the first day they met. "Aqua, you remind me so much of a friend Copper and I once had who we sadly lost, and I use to have an interest in. You resemble her so much, and you're also really cute and curious as I am! Basically, I was wondering if you would want to be my lover?" Metal blurted out, Aqua confused and trying to process the news Metal had shared.
"Lover?" Aqua repeated the word mispronounced, and Metal correcting her. She had no understanding of what he meant by a lover, and she also wasn't alive for long to pick up as much knowledge as Metal and Copper did. Will she be making the correct decision in becoming his 'lover'? "Sorry, I don't know what lover is" Aqua sadly spoke, Metal jumping up to explain what it meant in hopes it would change her mind. "It's two people who love each other deeply" Metal detailed.
The feeling of uncertainty rose in Aqua, her mind troubled on what her right answer was. She began fumbling on words, trying to choose what could tell Metal that she didn't know. Metal saw how stressed she seemed with the idea of them both together, and his once always cheerful and positive attitude faltered to one of worry and depression. Finally, Aqua's voice broke out. "I can't, I haven't known you for a long time," Aqua said, looking down at the floor.
Metal's eyes showed no emotion, and his hands were flat on his sides, the rain there to cover the awkward tension. They both looked at one another with contrasting emotions. Metal felt horrible, and Aqua felt unhinged. "But it's love at first sight, I thought you liked me already" Metal muttered, his eyes watering from the idea of rejection. "Sorry, I don't know how to feel" Aqua replied, heading off to the elevators, and pressing the button to head down.
Metal watched Aqua take her departure, and sat down on the wet floor, waiting for Aqua to come back. He thought it was how love worked, but he hasn't been alive for long enough to know the true nature of love. It was a two-sided sword, where it was anyone's game. Metal didn't have the experience for it, and neither did anyone else. If anyone was going to truly feel love, it could have been Metal. Sadly, rejection is what he was faced with. That's not the only thing he was faced with...
Aqua made it back to the underground town where all the other lumalights slept in their homes, sound asleep. Copper's home was the closest nearby, just next to his home was Metal's. The water lumalight took her walk to the home near the building of Skull, Cube, and Oil, heading inside to get some shut-eye. The marshmallow bed that awaited her had a ripped piece of scarf. She crawled in bed, and raised the scarf to her neck, falling asleep with many questions in mind.
What is love? Did Metal mean it? Why did it happen so fast? It never seemed to stop haunting her until she fell into a deep sleep, not having a single dream or nightmare. There was not even a vision of the future and what might happen. Aqua was met with a black screen until the following day...
