The rain...it's calm today. There are lots of people outside finishing their last-minute shopping, some children are running around the park across from a big mansion where a billionaire lives, and the gardener got a break from watering their plants due to the rain trickling down from the heavens. "Goodness gracious, you children are always stomping around on my property!" the old man of the mansion roared, the children dashing off home, shrieking in fear of the crazy old man.
It didn't stop raining which most people despised about this town. There was never a sunny day with no rain, just rain, rain, and more rain. Today was a bit different, dare they say. On this blessed day, these small adorable creatures called lumalights were being born again. Once every first of each month, there are about four little critters who stroll in the underground and strive to live for happiness and perfect lives. Sadly, they all die so very quickly.
Over time, they'll advance to be as wise and strong as us humans, but no one has ever seen them with their naked eye. Only one gifted child was able to see a lumalight in person, and that child saw them only once in their life. On the day that child was walking with her mother to the bus stop, the little creature was born from a single tear of a cloud, falling onto the pavement of the sidewalk. Another lumalight who was made from the fluff of the cloud noticed the other fall down.
In hopes of rescuing them, the air lumalight floated down, hoping to be faster than the water lumalight, but they plummeted faster than the rain could catch up to. Splat! The water lumalight smacked their face on the ground, taking in their surroundings, and admiring the scenery from down below. The small spirit, as small as a tiny bug enjoyed it all until a large foot nearly crushed the poor soul. As fast as they came to life, the water spirit ran off, searching for shelter.
Underneath a bench was where they went, enveloped with the warmth of the kiosk that emitted light from the inside. On the bench sitting was the little child and their mother, patiently waiting for the arrival of their bus, aiming to get home dry, and safe. Lumalights do not know what is and isn't dangerous until faced with death, so they do anything to learn by trying things firsthand. Generally, the lumalights would try speaking to humans, some not having voices.
The water spirit waved at the child, the little girl noticing the tiny speck of a person there, waving both their tiny noodle arms around. She picked up the water spirit in her hand, inspecting it closer in hopes to discover what it was. The 'thing' made gestures for a home, some place warm, sleep, and many more. Surprisingly, the little girl understood that they wanted a place to live in, and thought about the consequences. What could happen to the lumalight of water?
The bus came by, and the mother pulled her daughter off the bench, and into the bus quickly, hoping that they wouldn't catch a cold from the rain. The small creature fell of their hand, and onto the rushing water, heading towards the grates, blocking off the sewers. Hastily, the spirit paddled backwards, an attempt to go against the strong current, but the flow of the filthy water submerged them, the spirit lost in the nasty waters of the sewers, and searching for an escape.
Up ahead was a set of ladders leading off the water, and on to solid land, the drop off to god knows was just past that where no other set of ladders were. In this very moment, the water spirit had to think of quickly what to do to reach the ladder. Lots of litter from the humans as well as dropped items were scattered in the water, a plan in mind forging itself into existence. They hoisted themselves on to a plank of wood that was close by, and used a straw to help row themselves to shore.
After successfully evading that gruesome fall of water, the little lumalight headed on through the dark and smelly tunnels, listening closely to everything that made a noise. Sounds of cackling fire caught the little lumalight's attention, just up ahead a corner was a tiny fireplace made for someone their size. Whoever was there last had just made this fire because it was a strong, blazing fire. The droplet sat down, wondering where it came from, someone from far away making clicking sounds.
"Just these two weird things would suffice, and I could make myself a home" a tiny boyish voice echoed down the tunnel, a chill arising the water droplet's fake spine. The sound of small taps grew louder as a flame lighted the tunnels. It appeared to be a flame walking over to where the small little water spirit sat, carrying with them a makeshift hammer, and a made up toolbox with stuff inside for construction. As the flame spirit arrived to their fireplace, the other one hid.
The water spirit was hid in the now calmed waters of the sewers, peeking over the edge of the walkway. No tension was brought up yet, and the fire lumalight was just there for a quick moment to settle their things, and go scavenger hunting for more trinkets and gadgets. Knowing that it was safe to return to the fire, the small water spirit lifted themselves out of the disgusting water, and watch the fire with confusion. What is this fire? Where did it come from? When did it get here?
Who made it?
