Died out, the fire finally died out. There was no more water gushing through the pipes and mazes of tunnels anymore. It was around that time of day where the mere humans rested in bed, and dozed off, the only time where the lumalights were able to explore the surface. None of them wanted to though, it was far too risky of an action to concur. The unnamed water spirit traveled the tunnels for hours now, out of energy to press onwards. Crawling was their next resort.
This little spirit crawled on the cracked floors of the tunnels, searching for a place that had all their necessities; Clean clothes and water. Daylight shined through the grates that did nothing against water and small enough items to slot past. On the walls were graffiti done by humans who remembered this place long ago. Now, it is home to the lumalights who do anything to hide from the horrid humans. They only feared humans because they were bigger in size.
"Drat, we'll have to restart this whole thing again" a small voice echoed, tinkering and clanks of metals alerting the water spirit that they had to find a spot to keep away from the lumalight strangers. A small wooden wall with a blanket propped up helped tremendously with hiding, even a little hole for spying on the two bickering lumalights. "Place the door here, and drill it in with this" a lumalight of copper told the other, them getting to work. The water spirit was not so thrilled about this.
About what you may ask? Well about the thought of them introducing themselves, and asking for directions to civilization that accepts lumalights. They did it anyway and toughened themselves up for one heck of a joyride. A wave was enough to catch the needed attention of the two. The other spirit was made of metal, their head the shape of a silver cog. "Who are you?" the metal one asked, the small little lumalight figuring out how to translate their words in sign language.
"Aqua, and I need a home" the spirit named Aqua signed with her hands, the two processing the contracting symbols made with their hands. "Once we finish this tram, you will have a home" the copper one replied, patting the side of the tiny machine that was deemed as dangerous by the looks of it. The front window had cracks in it, there was only one way in, and there's only a lever and button to steer the tram. Aqua did not trust this machine of theirs one bit.
In fact, Aqua had doubts that the tram would successfully guide them to a home. "Just wait a bit longer for us to finish, and we'll take you to our home" the copper spirit indicated, the metal one handing Aqua a cap from a plastic bottle of water. Gratefully, she took the cap, and took a small sip of water, feeling refreshed already. Copper and Metal were nearly done with their machine they've taken a week of perfecting and notified Aqua that it was time.
"How long did it take you to make this?" Aqua gestured with her hands, Metal being the first to speak since they had experience with hand sign translation. "About a week. To travel up to the surface takes four days, so we made this tram our size, able to stay above the water that rushes through every time it rains" Metal answered, Aqua looking over the edge of the tram, Copper rearing them back in. "Hold on, you don't want to fall there" Copper warned Aqua.
He took one small tool of his that was no longer needed and flung it into the water far down below. Ten seconds went by, and a very distant splash was heard. "We've lost so many friends to those horrid waters, and what lurks inside" Copper sadly sighed, Metal on controls of the small tram that went only in one direction, and that was forward and down together. This rose more curiosity in Aqua, but it was dangerous to wander about what lurked in the waters.
After all, curiosity killed the cat, and it was uncertain what monster roamed those waters. "We're here!" Metal blissfully cheered, Copper nearly getting a heart attack from how loud Metal shouted. Metal hopped off, and placed his tiny train hat on a tiny box, and signed the paper they had for attendance. Aqua assumed that it was to keep in check who still was alive in the town of theirs. Copper helped Aqua off the tram, taking her by the hand, and carefully carrying her across the small gap.
As a sign of gratitude, Aqua bowed to Copper for helping her, Copper's arms now cleaned since Aqua's drips of water rubbed against his tiny body. "At least now I know who to call in need of a shower" Copper giggled, Metal taking their hands, and running across the small town they had. "Everyone, we have someone new to introduce!" Metal beamed, everyone gathering around to greet the newcomer into their humble abode. From what Aqua could count, there were about ten to twenty lumalights that lived for this long.
"This is Aqua, please take care of her the way you all take care of yourselves!" Copper continued, everyone clapping for the new citizen. Even one of the lumalights that specialized with magnets got their hands stuck together, the others laughing at Magnet having his hands tied together. Metal journeyed off to his routine helping the lumalights travel around, Copper assisting Aqua on getting familiar with the town. "This is our Clinking Town, where Metal and I hope to save all the newborn lumalights that search for a shelter to live in" Copper shyly announced.
Aqua gazed around the small town they've made, some houses on top of others to conserve space. They could see many of the spirits practicing with their talents, and getting the gist of controlling it. Basically, everyone was discovering what they were capable of, and how to avoid death from accidents. "See any home you like, and you can take it, we don't have currency like humans do" Copper suggested to Aqua, taking his walk back to where his friend Metal was.
Aqua had lots to explore in this small town.
