It was after Dinnertime, everyone cleaning their own dishes, and preparing to head home for rest. Copper caught a glimpse of Mid and Skull who were hand in hand, walking to their shared home. Aqua paid no mind to the lovers strolling back to their house. "Copper, is something wrong?" Aqua asked, Copper shaking his head, and looking down to the little spirit that stood beside him. "Not at all, why?" Copper replied with his own question. "You're staring intensely at Mid and Skull" Aqua retorted.
"Oh, I just didn't know they were that close" Copper sighed, rubbing the back of his head. The two went back to observing over Mid and Skull, watching them fade from their view. "Are they together?" Copper quizzically stated, Aqua wondering the same. "Maybe?" Aqua replied with uncertainty in her voice. "Well let's go ask the two!" Copper suggested, Aqua agreeing with his idea, and following close behind him. As the two explored together to the spirits' home, they stumbled upon a split path.
It was thanks to Woody that Aqua and Copper did not get lost in the maze of paths. One sign read "Mid and Skull", pointing to the right while on the left, there was the building for Cube, Oil, and Rubber. Both Aqua and Copper were quiet on their trip, concentrating on getting to Mid's home safely. When they reached the front door of the house, Copper knocked three times gently, waiting for a response or the door to open. In a matter of seconds, the door creaked open, Skull there with tea.
"Copper? We're about to sleep, what could be so important that you interrupt our sleep?" Skull yawned out, back hunched over due to Mid clung on the back of Skull, stirring in his sleep. "We came to ask you a question if that's fine" Copper pleaded, Skull taking a peek at his lover before allowing the two to proceed into his home, and sit on the couch for their questions to be shared. "What was it that you wanted to ask?" Skull sat down, laying Mid to rest his head on Skull's lap. "We were wondering if you both were dating" Copper responded, Skull nearly spitting out his tea.
Mid stayed sound asleep, Skull to the best of his abilities holding in the tea that nearly splattered onto the coffee table. "How'd you find out?" Skull gagged, Copper pointing to their hands jointed together. Skull looked down to see the giveaway, and snaked his hand back to his side. "I was hoping to keep this a little secret until later, but I guess there's no use of hiding it now" Skull sighed, taking another sip of his tea. Aqua and Copper shared glances that both wore the same confused expression.
"Why would you want to keep it a secret?" Copper spat out, Skull thinking whether or not to tell Copper the truth about Mid and Skull's relationship. "Well it's because Mid has already a bad temper on his own as you know" Skull reminded, Copper remembering the incident the week prior to this day. "Yeah I know about that" Copper hinted at, scratching his arm with a sense of awkwardness arising. Aqua didn't have an actual say in the matter, she remained quiet while listening to the two converse. "When I stumbled upon Mid, he was so scared to see me, that I knew I had to keep him with me to let others know I'm not a plausible threat" Skull notified Copper, Copper immediately receiving red flags. "Wait, why would you want to be a threat?" he asked.
That's when Skull was taken back by the question, and had to rethink of what he said. "I didn't, but I wanted to prove to people I wasn't vicious since I'm an Ashed lumalight" Skull sighed, caressing Mid's head lightly as Mid snored in his sleep. "So you assumed keeping Mid around you will show others that you won't do harm to them?" Copper cleared up, Skull approving of that statement. This was all so confusing for Aqua, but Copper understood in simpler terms what this all meant for the two. "So how'd you actually get together then?" Copper interrogated.
"Mid began growing a liking to me after I basically dragged him around with me to show others that I pose no threat" Skull yawned out, stretching his arms, and rubbing his eyes lightly. Copper as well as Aqua noticed Skull's tired expression, and got up from the couch, prepared to take their leave. "Well I see that you're tired, so I'll get out of your hair" Copper remarked, Aqua following alongside him. "I'm not that tired, just had one day of oversleeping" Skull replied, Copper pushing that through.
"Copper, we're going home?" Aqua whispered into Copper's ear, his head nodding to her question. Skull got up from the couch, cautiously picking up Mid from his lap, and carrying him in his arms. As Skull helped to walk out Copper and Aqua from their home, Skull said his goodbye as did Copper and Aqua. Of course Skull could not hear Aqua's departure, yet she decided to be polite about it. As they walked home, Aqua couldn't help but think about how Copper and herself came to be.
"Copper, you know I'm technically a dead lumalight, right?" Aqua reminded Copper, his head bobbing in confirmation. The female took a deep inhale before speaking what was on her mind. "You can also see me and touch me" Aqua rested her head on Copper's shoulder, the two walking the path back to their shared home. "Yes, what about it?" Copper pressed on, wanting the main point of this build-up. "I want to make sure we stay together, and that no one could hurt you so...would you willingly die for me to stay together?" her words poured out.
The bronze colored lumalight did not know how else to react to these words other than concerned, confused, and nervous. He held his mouth open, no sound projecting from his mouth. Aqua stood there worried whether or not Copper would approve of this random idea. It was a last second accusation that Aqua thrown out without second thoughts. "You want me to...die for you?" Copper repeated, Aqua's hand making a shaky motion as though she was uncertain with the way he worded it.
"In a way yes, I know you could forever be dead and not present, but I want to be with you as a dead spirit as well" Aqua retorted, Copper having to take his time with this thought. "What made you think about this?" Copper spat back, Aqua recalling the old waterwall that she spotted near the Clinking Town. "There's another place I know where we could still be with all our friends" Aqua lit up, Copper listening closely to what she had to say. After the whole night thinking about the idea, Copper accepted the idea, and drowned.
The next morning, everyone lived their lives normally, forgetting that Copper had existed, but it didn't matter thanks to the brilliant plan that Aqua had been growing ever since her creation. In short, she knew she would always have a home to return to. Back at the Clinking Town, Aqua reached the waterwall that showed her the familiar scary reflection, and searched in the wall for Copper. Just there in the middle was him, struggling to free himself from the other ghosts.
Aqua, the angel lumalight swam inside the water, tugging Copper's leg away from their hold, and paddling herself to the other side of the waterwall. Once they reached the other side, they were greeted with the past version of Clinking Town, in the days where everyone was still alive. Copper looked around with confusion as to how Aqua found this place, yet she of course explained herself after they got themselves comfortable in their new home...for now.
