Chapter 19
Midoriya's POV
When Aizawa-sensei told us what our next set of exercises would be, Mikasuki and Toga instantly developed this expression on their faces as if they had been long time rivals. I had gotten a little worried for their own safety because I'd seen glances of them sparring with others but not with each other before. Ochaco had told me that Toga's attacks are very direct and although relies a lot on open palmed attacks, whenever one of her strikes would connect, it would feel like she had just gotten grazed by a knife. I had chosen Ocacho as my sparring partner for this session but both of us were more concerned about how those two would go at it.
"What do you think Mikasuki-san's fighting style is like?" Ocacho asked me.
"I can't fathom a guess but if I had to say something, maybe traditional martial arts that he augments with his quirk?"I said to her as we prepared to spar.
Or I thought we were going to prepare to spar because the instant the both of us assumed our fighting positions....
CRACK
All of a sudden there was like loud noise that sounded like two boulders crashed into each other and split down the middle, only to look over to see that it was Mikasuki and Toga clashing their fists together. When they broke away from each other, they were trading blows as if it were a high speed fight in an anime, and it was as if I was watching anime take place in real life. Vincent's fighting style was strange as it appeared that he was violently twisting and turning his body whenever he moved with a very clear combination of martial arts, traditional kickboxing and taekwondo. Except that it was more chaotic than anything such as Vincent lunging forward with his entire body fist first and when he'd miss and his fist would connect with the ground, his next action would be to open his hand to let the momentum carry him until he was in a handstand then spin his legs out like a helicopter's blade just to reposition himself to stop Toga's next attack. Toga was no slouch herself having all of her attacks involving her hands would have very clear targets being Mikasuki's wrists, shoulders or chest to restrict his movement or to try and knock the wind out of him. Whenever she would use her legs and feet, not only were they extremely fast but she would aim for his head more than anything else and at brief moments, she would perform exact copies of his fighting style to the point where it would look like two mirrors fighting each other and neither one of them letting up.
Before I realized it, the entire class, Aizawa-sensei included, were all gathered together and watching them spar. No one said much of anything aside from Bakugo making rude comments about how they shouldn't be here and Yayorozu-san mumbling under her breath that she'd never seen such chaotic fighting before.
As the sparring session continued, the two of them were literally speeding up the longer it went to the point where I couldn't keep a good track of their hands anymore and it seemed like they had extra limbs at times. Such as Vincent throwing a roundhouse kick, Toga would use one hand to brush it off and forcefully spin him, use her free hand to strike and then Vincent with his back turned would ,somehow, stop the attack just to turn around and throw a left hook to force Toga to step backwards to avoid getting hit. Yet as she stepped back, he too would step back appearing as if someone swung a knife at his neck. After they both stepped back and made a fair bit of distance between themselves, they instantly closed the gap and began trading hand strikes beyond what any human should be capable of doing with neither one giving any room for error. I had thought I'd seen it all until they both threw a punch with so much force that they traded positions and turned around to trade kicks at the same speed if not FASTER than they were trading hand strikes. They only stopped when they managed to kick each other in the face at the same time which gave Toga the opportunity to grab Mikasuki's leg and throw him backwards over her shoulder with enough force to send him flying towards us. Although he managed to catch himself mid-air with one of his wires and pulled himself back towards her, it still didn't stop him from nearly giving everyone a heart attack.
As he flew back towards Toga, he was in a position where he was able to reel his right leg behind him and swing outwards hard enough to do a full rotation then he used that momentum to flip himself forwards and slam his heel down onto Toga's guard and broke it. Mikasuki landed in a crouching position and immediately rose up to strike Toga again but he was stopped by her fist stopping just before his face and his hand stopping just before her chest. It was then that they finally stopped sparring and fell to their knees in exhaustion.
"Holy hell, that was just like that dragon anime except they stayed on the ground the whole time!" Kirishima-kun exclaimed.
"Maybe they're not human just like the main characters on the show?!" Kaminari shouted.
"Haha, very funny you two. Of course they're human." Yaoyorozu corrected.
"Are you two alright?" Ochaco and I asked as we walked over to help them to their feet.
"Aside from being completely sore all over, I'd say we're fine. What about you Vincent?" Toga asked as she staggered to her feet with Ochaco's help.
"It hurts like hell to move normally so I don't think I'm going to walk for a while. Normally anyway." Vincent said as he used his quirk to conjure some legs to walk with after he too, staggered to his feet.
Aizawa-sensei, cleared his throat and told us that we could all go home for the day after asking Toga and Mikasuki if they needed to go to the infirmary and they said no.
Himiko's POV
"So, it looks like we're warping home because neither of us are in a condition to walk to the train station." I said once we made it to the school gates.
"That and it looks like we won't be going to Sato's tonight so I'll be making dinner once I wake up." Vincent said as he prepared to warp us to his house.
By the time we got there, I made a comment about how Vincent was really improving with warping us to and from school. Before, it used to really do a number on him but as time went on, the burden pretty much stopped existing for him. At first, he rejected the praise but Christin made sure to inject himself into the conversation and let me know that Vincent was appreciative of it. Christin also told me that Vincent was too chicken to say that I was improving at adapting to any situation when I needed to fight with my hands.
"Agh, damn it Christin aren't you supposed to be sleeping?!" Vincent shouted in annoyance.
"God I hate it when he does that." He said once Christin didn't say anything else.
"I think it's cute. You two are cute." I said in response and then quickly felt my face heat up.
"Himiko, please don't encourage him. For my sanity, please d- you think I'm cute?" He asked.
Good job Himiko, there's no getting out of this now. You just had to open your damn mouth.
"Yeah I do." I said.
Vincent didn't say anything in response except for giving a stifled smile as if he didn't know how to handle the compliment as he made his way to his room. I guess after living mostly isolated for so long, he wouldn't really know how to process a compliment like that would he? I didn't mean for it to come out but I genuinely enjoy watching them go back and forth like that all the time. Oh well, I need to get some rest because it's getting hard for me to stay standing now.
When I woke up after my nap, I was greeted by the amazing smell of beef fried rice, roasted vegetables and tea. As I made my way to the table, I jokingly mentioned that he should let me try making dinner.
"Hell no! The last time I let you try cooking breakfast, you almost burned down my kitchen!" He shouted.
"Damn it man, I said I was sorry and that I wouldn't walk away from the stove again! Please let me try again!" I pleaded.
"Hell, no Himiko."
"Aw, you're no goddamn fun Vincent." I said as I began to eat while trying not to pout.
"About when you called me cute earlier... thanks. I hadn't ever been called that by someone my own age before."
