"This plan is stupid." Tanith grumbled as she tugged on her diving suit.
"That's nice." The older woman with steel grey streaks through her blonde hair dismissed the younger blonde's attitude and focussed on steering the submarine deeper into the Irish Sea.
"This plan is stupid and we're going to die." she repeated the sentiment only for her nephew to brush her off with a roll of his eyes.
Bright headlights parted the inky darkness and as they reached the bottom of the ocean floor deep sea fish scattered. Ellion gazed out into the unknown in wonder. The further they travelled, the more rapidly the red light on the geolocator flashed, until suddenly they reached the bottom of a large underwater cliff-face.
"Here we are." Their guide stopped the vehicle just outside a small opening in the rocky surface. "Ursula's cave."
"Seriously?" Tanith tilted her head in exasperation.
"You'll find out why we call it that soon enough." came the grave reply.
Once they were equipped with all the gear they required, Tanith and Ellion excited the underwater ship. Their body temperatures plummeted in the chill of the freezing salt-water. The duo made their way over to the cave entrance, shooting eachother glances of hesitation. Tanith was the first to move, clutching the god-killer sword tightly in her clenched fist. She lead the way through the thick blanket of inky water, only a single beam of light illuminating their path. Eventually, the narrow tunnel they were following deeper into the face of the cliff widened and the two broke the surface of an underwater lake that stretched through a massive cavern. Stalacites lined the rocky ceiling and the water seemed to glow an eerie deep teal. The walls of the mysterious place were thickly covered in bioluminescent algae. In the middle of the large body of water was an island. Every surface of the island was hidden underneath a mountain of sparkling metals. Right at the top was the dark glint of the black crystal adorning the Sceptre of the Ancients.
"So we just have to climb up there and take it? This is going to be a lot easier than I thought." Tanith hurrumfed, her voice muffled by her breathing mask.
Ellion frowned, not yet convinced they were in the all clear as they swam through the water and reached the island. He kept a watchful eye and waited at the base of the stacked treasures as Tanith scaled it expertly, assisted with her adept abilities to defy the will of gravity. What could have collected all of these shiny objects to stack here like a treasure trove? There were whole cars and parts of sunken ships in the pile, along with ornate, golden furniture and chests brimming with what he could only assume were more riches and jewels.
"Ahah!" Tanith called out triumphantly, and Ellion glanced upwards to see the sceptre in her grasp.
"Great, now come on. Let's get out of here before..." he began to speak, but his words were interrupted by the shrill tinkle of metallic objects crashing down the heap. Almost as soon as the sound started to echo around the cave, the still surface of the water exploded as a mass launched upwards out of the depths.
