That night Alice had barely returned from her ventures after dinner when Hansard came to see her.

"Hansard, I just saw you at dinner. Is something the matter?" she asked, her stomach twisting at the thought that they could be going off to war.
"Does something need to be wrong for me to visit my Queen of darkness?" he kissed her hand and bowed as he let himself into her chambers. She fastened the robe tighter around her as he took a seat on the Ottoman at the foot of her large bed. The whole place looked rather elegantly gothic with its tall stone walls and heavy velvet curtains of the deepest purples and greens.
"Have you been enjoying recruiting for me? I'm sure time-traveling must have worn you out. You must be tense."
He got up and lead her over to sit down on a soft couch and as he massaged her shoulders, cold fingers lingering on the bare skin she repressed a shiver of disgust and the urge to cry out for Ellion.
"I've heard that you've been rather busy recruiting for our cause. You've been staying out of trouble, I hope?" he smirked.
"I've just had to be careful to travel back to a time when the people have just died so it won't alter the timeline. During previous endeavors, I've not been able to fully transport my physical being through time but rather my consciousness inhabits my body in that timeline. As I've been a mere baby during the time some of the recruits have died in I have had to develop my powers, so my body can travel as well and not just my soul. It's been going perfectly." She said truthfully. She figured if she told him the truth and shared personal details on some levels he wouldn't think to pry in others.
"It's rather impressive how you're able to adapt your magic." He said with a sultry purr.
"I'm feeling rather tired though. I should probably get to bed." She stood up and pulled her robe around her again.
"Of course, my Queen." He stood as well and bowed low. She took a step back away from him.
"Goodnight." She responded emotionlessly and watched to make sure he left before crawling into bed and collapsing in a heap. She clutched a pillow close to herself and tried to stop the tears from flowing. If only Ellion were here. Or if only she could stop thinking about him.
