The Devil's Candy

Chapter 27

I found myself in a dark room with only the lamp light flickering on and off above my head. It felt like a typical interrogation scene from a movie, but the one big difference is the fact that this is real. I look around to find Jinnie tied up behind me as we're both restrained in chairs.

"J-Ji-Jin-" I tried to call her, but my cheek was too swollen from Sasha's punch earlier to speak. She caught onto us and played me right into her trap, causing Noah to try and save us.

I hope Noah is alright.

I try to look around the room, but the candy is still taking its course through my body. It's hard to tell what's real and what's not. It felt as if I lost control of myself and my mind was just going for the ride. 

In front of me a man appeared from the shadows and kneeled to be eye to eye. It's hard to make out who he is, or which one he is since I see 3 versions of him swaying side to side as he taps me on the side of my cheek to wake me up. 

It's like he's trying to talk to me, yet I can't hear nor understand what he's saying.

He turns to one of his subordinates and gestures to him to come closer before stepping back. His partner comes over with a bottle of water. 

The feeling of water entering my body helped me start to regain control over myself and things started to become clearer. I down the rest of the bottle and the first man re-appears in my face.

Well I'll be damned. It's him.

Who?

Vince.

Wearing a dark red leather jacket and several chains that have studs on them are wrapped around his wrist. Definitely a Mephisto I can assure that, looking like the devil himself if he were to waltz around in a red suit.

"Regained your senses yet?" he asks me.

I look at him nodding since it still hurts to speak. He gives me a smirk and just at that moment Sasha enters pushing a tall body in front of her onto the floor. My jaw drops at the sight of Dominic. 

I rattle in my chair wanting to break free as Dom gets punched in the chest a few times by the one who gave me the water and Sasha. Dom looks unfazed and pissed as hell, wanting to kill the man in front of me on the spot. The two lock eyes.

"It's been a long time, hasn't it?" he says to Dom, "You've come a long way, but there's a lot you're still missing out on."

"Beating the shit out of you is the only thing I'm missing out on, Vince," Dom replies.

"Keep dreaming."

Vince circles around the room as he explains that ever since he started the Mephistos his main goal in life was to create an underground gang that grants people's innermost desires no matter if it does more harm than good. Dom tries to break free, but Vince punches his right across his face.

"That felt good."

"What should we do with them?" Sasha asks, pointing at Jinnie and I. Vince looks directly at us and smiles.

"How about you two work for me?" he asks.

Dom freezes in place as him and I are both stunned by Vince's offer. Even Sasha was shocked to hear him say those exact words.

"If you work for me, I'll spare your boyfriend's life, refuse and you all die."

Dom struggles to break free once again and the subordinates knock him to his knees as Vince aims a gun at his face.

"Is this enough leverage to make a decision? I have a party to get back to."

"Why would you want me?" I ask.

"Because you have conviction. You think your little group of Liberated have been operating so smoothly finding key pieces in search of me? No, I allowed it, but I was surprised the one who sought me first wasn't Dom, it was you."

"Amelia..." Dom cries out as he tries to stand before being knocked down again.

Time was running out and I needed to figure out something fast. If I agree to join him, Dom and everyone else lives, but I don't want to betray them. And if I refuse, we all die.

This moment has come down to me with everyone's lives on the line. The one girl who stayed late at school and found guys beating up someone by the dumpsters. 

Even then it was my choice to join them to be a part of something that I would've never thought I'd be in. I met great people and created lasting bonds, I met Dom. 

Looking back to how far I've come since then, my decision was already set in stone: I would never betray the Liberated. I would never betray my friends.

"No," I tell Vince and just like that I can see the shame in his eyes and Dom's shocked face as Vince prepares to pull the trigger. 

Just before he could, Olly bursts through the door, causing everyone to disperse as Enzo enters behind him with several other members in black, ones I've never met before. A brawl breaks out as The Liberated go toe to toe with the Mephistos. Enzo frees Jinnie and I before handing us off to Olly.

"Get them safely out of here and patch them up. I'll go get Dom," he says.

Olly drags us both out of the maintenance shed as things start to get violent. Blood on both sides get spilled whether you are wearing red or black. I can hear the gunshots as Olly takes us a distance away.

"Stay here, Noah is on his way," he tells me.

I look down by the shed and I see two people in red flee the scene, it's Vince and Sasha. Behind them tailing is Dom and he doesn't look to be in good shape. 

I use all the strength I have to stand, and I start to head downhill to follow behind. Olly tries to grab hold of me, and I push away, ignoring his pleas. I start to pick up my pace and follow in pursuit in order to make sure nothing bad happens to Dom.
