Chapter 7

"Amelia!"

"Huh?" I blink coming out of my deep thoughts.

"I've been calling you for the past 5 minutes. What the hell are you so deep in thought about?" Jinnie asked with a look of concern appearing on her face. My mind flashes to the moment when Dom kisses my neck. I blush at the memory.

"N-nothing." I mumble picking at my French fries.

"Mhmmm. Sure." She smirks, taking a bite out of her celery stick. The guys came in that moment taking their usual seats. I scoot towards the right putting some distance between Dominic and myself.

"What's wrong Bambi?" He wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me back to his side. I tense at the feeling of his fingers grazing the bit of exposed skin from my shirt riding up.

I stay quiet not trusting myself in case I stutter.

He leans in whispering in my ear, "Cat got your tongue?" A shiver ran down my spine that didn't go unnoticed.

Dominic chuckles pulling away digging into his lunch.

"Let's play a game," said Elijah.

"21 questions?" Jinnie suggested.

"Okay Jinnie, what is your name shortened for?" Noah said, turning to face her. "Like is it short for Jennifer or Jasmine?"

"Nope just Jinnie. My mom was obsessed with Winnie the Pooh and was going to name me Winnie, but my dad wouldn't let her, thank god, and they settled for Jinnie." Noah hums.

"Oliver, what's your nationality?" Jinnie asked.

"To be honest I don't know, I'm adopted." Oliver says munching on his chips. His confession surprises Jinnie and I. He seemed so comfortable revealing such a personal fact.

"Oh, I'm sorry." I blurt out. "Shit, no I don't mean sorry. I mean it is great you got adopted. Sorry that your parents did not want- Oh god. I'll stop talking now." I groan at my stupidity, I put my face in my hands.

"Amelia, it's okay." Oliver chuckles. I look up unsure. "I promise." He says sincerely.

"Amelia, your turn." Elijah says.

"Um..." Not sure what to say after that horrible word vomit. "Oh! Why did we barely see you guys before and now you are all just... Well everywhere." This has been on my mind for a while.

"Cause, Bambi, we don't make our presence known unless it's necessary."

"And we're necessary?" Jinnie questions.

"Well, if your friend would've just minded her business that first night, then we could've avoided all this."

Lunch ends and we all head to our next classes. The rest of the day Dom's comment has been on my mind all day. If I would have never seen them beating someone up after school, he would have never approached me?

I try imagining what these last few days would have been like without the guys. But I do not think I would have changed anything from that night. Even though my curiosity almost got me killed.

It is the end of the day and I make my usual trip to my locker to grab a book that I had to return to the library. Jinnie already texted me saying she did not need a ride home because Noah offered to take her since her house was near his. I head to the library and catch up with Ms. Hall, the librarian, since I have not been here in a while.

Once I was done, I started heading towards the back doors that would lead to the student parking lot when I heard a familiar voice shouting.

"I told you, I got the job done! Yes, I made sure he was dead before leaving! I shot him myself dammit!" Dom snarled into the phone.

I gasped.

Dominic shot someone?

"Who's there?" Eyes wide, I cover my mouth, preventing any more noise from coming out. "Look I'm going to have to call you back." I slowly start walking backwards, trying to make my escape, but I don't get far before I am slammed back against the wall.

"It's not good to eavesdrop." He growled. His face is only inches away from mine.

"I di-didn't hear anything. I pr-promise."

"You need to learn how to mind your own fucking business Amelia." He pushes away from me and stalks away.

Amelia?

He is never said my name once since he met me. I did not think he even knew my name or even cared to remember it.
