''Maybe it was an old boyfriend,'' Clarke voiced aloud. But even then, as she toyed with the notebook in her hand, as she looked outside of the abode, she knew it wasn't true.
Damn. Why, out of all places to wake up memory-less in, did it have to be in the middle of a forest in some obscure village with no one in it?
A sigh came from Luna beside her. ''Wonderful,'' she muttered under her breath. ''We are in the midst of nowhere.''
And although it was depressing, Clarke was inclined to agree with her. From behind them wheeled Lexa out, and as she neared the outside of the abode, Clarke watched her reaction. She took it all in somewhat graciously, or at least, as gracious as one could after they woke up utterly amnesiac and confused to just wherever the heck they were and why they were even here.
''We are in a village, at the very least,'' Lexa supplied. ''There may be people around.''
And at that, Clarke just looked at Lexa. Luna did the same. Because they all knew it wasn't true, if the dead howl of the wind or the utterly silent village wasn't testament for anything, despite whatever conviction she might put in her voice.
''Um... Clarke?'' Clarke felt a tap on her hand. Swivelling around, she noticed the child looking up at her. ''I don't think you really seem like the boyfriend type,'' the child said helpfully, which aroused an involuntary glare. Who was this kid to judge?
''Shof op, goufa,'' she found herself muttering, and then she caught herself. And blinked. Because what the heck did she just say?!
Lexa and Luna both whipped their heads over to meet Clarke's in disbelief, and she suddenly felt very self-conscious. The child seemed just as bewildered as well, looking up at her with wide-eyes, until from her voice seemed to get unstuck. ''Shut up, child?'' she translated, looking at her in confusion. And then, that confusion turned into indignancy. ''Oh, c'mon! You're not my mom!'' she scowled, glaring at Clarke with what seemed like an intense amount of irritation.
The irritation must've been infectious because it had twinged at Clarke as well. ''No one said that I couldn't be,'' she said, and though it was phrased jokingly, she had muttered it what just felt like a huge amount of irritation and... protectiveness?
She blinked. That was weird. But thankfully, aside from another annoyed look from the child as she crossed her arms and huffed indignantly, she didn't seem to notice that seeped into her tone. However, Lexa and Luna just had to stare at her like she'd grown a second head. Of course.
''Y'cant be my mom,'' she huffed out, as she looked at her up and down. ''That's just... weird.''
Clarke cleared her throat. For some reason, she had felt slightly taken aback (and a bit hurt, if that was even... possible) at this, but nevertheless let it pass. She was about to speak her mind to the child, despite there basically being everyone that was alive on the earth around her to hear, and taking a breath, she said in slight irritation: ''Madi. You can't speak to people like that. It's not very nice.''
At this, the child groaned, but then she suddenly stopped mid-groan. Swivelled her eyes up to her in surprise, similarily as Lexa and Luna's had been for the past few moments. ''Wait. What'd you just call me?''
''Madi.'' Clarke frowned. And blinked twice in surprise, because she'd just called this child a name without even knowing it. A name which just rolled off her tounge like any word would've. And when she tried to mouth the words again, it had felt... familiar.
And judging by the way the child was staring at her, Clarke realised that she'd basically just guessed two names in a row for today. Frowning, she tried the words on her tongue again. ''Hmm. Madi?''
