That day came sooner than expected. Patton didn't sleep. Neither did Janus. Obviously. Janus fixed up his face with makeup. Getting rid of dark circles, redness from crying, all that.
Patton did the same. He had a quick cry before going out.
It was time.
Janus nodded to Logan and Virgil as he passed, trying to not look suspicious. So did Patton. They both walked between the living room and the kitchen, bumping into each other. "Hey, Janus." Patton said, trying to hold back tears. Janus put on his serious and calculated look. Not great for his I'm-gonna-break-your-heart-because-I-can look. Patton took a deep breath. "I have something to say." He choked out. "I do too." Janus agreed. "Is it what I think it is?" Patton asked. "Taking a break from each other? Yes." Janus confirmed. "Wow." Patton stepped back and smiled out of disbelief. Even though he was splintering on the inside. "What? Is that not what you were gonna say?" Janus asked. "It was but Roman was right!" Patton threw up his arms. "Wait, about what?" Janus asked. "That you would break up with me! So it was all an act!?" Patton said angrily. "Huh? Of course not! I loved you! I still do!" Janus argued. Patton froze. "W-what?" Patton asked. "I want to break up because I thought you pitied me! I thought you never loved me!" Janus told. Patton's jaw gaped. "Where would you get that idea?" Patton pressed. "Remus told me! Why would you think I didn't love you!? It's not like I cried every single day thinking about the one sided feelings! And I'm so not grateful for you being the only person who truly accepted me!" Janus lied. "Wait, Remus persuaded you? I-that still doesn't explain why you threatened Virgil and brutally broke up with Remus!" Patton fired back. Janus looked surprised. But he straightened his out fit and stood tall. "Let me tell you my side of those two stories. Come sit down with me." Janus said calmly. Patton took a deep breath and nodded.
"Virgil broke up with me. Not the other way around. And yes, I did threaten. But you have to know I was in a bad place because I was still crushing on you. And with Remus, you didn't see Virgil as a cold hearted bastard for breaking up with me! Why can't it be the same when I broke up with Remus? Also, he threatened me in return. So he was in the wrong there. I didn't want to break up because I'm just a bitch, I wanted to break up because I thought I was ruining your life. I put the blame on myself. Hence the crying every day." Janus explained. "Oh. God, now I feel bad for blaming you! Roman treated me like a puppet!" Patton covered his face. Janis wanted to comfort Patton but didn't know if it was an appropriate time since they were about to break up. But they hadn't yet. So Janus took the risk of a slap or something and hugged Patton. But the dad hugged back. Janus smiled as Patton cried into Janus' shoulder, getting his clothes wet. But he didn't mind. As long as he had Patton and Patton had him.
"Okay, I'm sorry I accused you." Patton apologized. "It's okay. Roman is a sneaky bitch. I feel bed for giving into Remus. Let's just admit we were both in the wrong and move on, alright?" Janus replied. Patton nodded. "Now let's go show those twins what they deserve." Janus dragged Patton to the mindscape.
"Roman! Remus!" Janus called. The twins both came into the main room and looked at the couple. "What?" Roman asked, sounding a little scared. The twins noticed that Janus and Patton were holding hands, meaning they hadn't broken up. The couple caught on. "What the fuck? Care to explain your cold-heartedness?" Janus asked. Remus laughed in embarrassment. "Fine."
After they explained, Patton was mad. "Roman! I would expect this from Remus but you!? I'm disappointed. So childish. Revenge isn't the answer! It was technically your fault for calling him a middle school librarian in the first place." Patton scolded. Roman looked down at his feet. "Look you two. I know that you guys must feel bad. But this really wasn't okay. You put me into a depressive state and broke Patton's heart. Not. Cool." Janus lectured. They both nodded shyly. "We're waiting!" Patton reminded. "We're really sorry. We never meant to make it that messy. But in hindsight, it was wrong to even think about this idea." Roman apologized. "Same here or whatever." Remus added. "Good. Come on Roman! It's time to go!" Patton left with Roman. Remus slowly walked to the couch and sat down sadly. Janus sighed and went over to him. "Look, it's gotta be lonely I know. But, if Virgil and I can be accepted, you can too. I still want to be best friends." Janus said. Remus looked up at him. "You're not lying?" Remus clarified. "I promise I'm not." Janus said truthfully. Remus smiled and hugged Janus.
