I couldn't accept it.. I just couldn't. My mom knew she was reborn in Christ so she knew that she had to change. Why she talking about it then? I wondered. I looked at the diary and for a second, I had the temptation to read more, but I stopped myself. I was going to do this right and that meant one step at the time. I closed my eyes and drifted off.FEW HOURS LATER
I woke up by voices coming from downstairs. It seemed like father was having a guest over and forgot to tell about it. I looked at myself in the mirror and fixed my hair before I went downstairs myself. Before heading to kitchen, I passed the living room and my jaw dropped when I found Peyton sitting on one of the couches while talking to my dad and he smiling about something. They both stopped and looked at me.
Dad: Jose! You're finally awake! Your boyfriend Peyton is here.
Me: Dad, he's not my...
I hesitated for a second, cause I felt how thick air was getting around me.
Me: ..boyfriend. Are you okay?
Dad: Of course I am.
Me: You sure? You wanted to kill him
Dad only chuckled.
Dad: Before I knew he is a young gentleman, with strong motivation, will and knowledge.
I made my way calmly but awkwardly across the living room
Me: What are you doing here?
Peyton: I'm on duty. Came to check up on you.
Me: Well, I'm alive. You can go now.
His expression changed a bit. It wasn't visible on his face but something seemed off in his eyes. Maybe it was uncertainty? He reached lower to whisper to my ear.
Peyton: Jose, do not bring up old things. Learn to keep your private life in check and seperate.
As he moved his mouth away from my ear, a sudden cold wind reached my hairs behind my neck. It was sudden, lasted for a moment but sharp like a knife. I turned to my dad and raised my hands.
Me: You can show him out of the door, I'll be in my room.
I ran out of the living room, my father calling after my name. Once inside, I locked my door and went back to my bed. Unfortunately it lasted for a second, when my dad yelled.
Dad: Josephine, you have school. Your ride is here.
I rolled my eyes and got out of bed. These current feelings took me back to the time when all of this started.
I looked at my window and like a flashback, I remembered myself looking outside at Peyton's car, who used his car's horn to wake me up.I shook myself to present and changed my clothes. How was I going to put up with this? He has been my bodyguard for months! My dad even saw us kissing and now with this attitude? Something seemed off.
Peyton's POV
Josephine had just ran out of the room, his father looking after him. We both could hear a door being shut. His father looked me bit embarrassed.
Jose's dad: I'm sorry for that. Josephine can be difficult sometimes.
Me: Of course, aren't we all?
Jose's dad gave a comforting smile then showed his hand in the direction of the front door. I nodded and followed him. I was starting to get outside when I stopped.
Me: Is there anything I should be worried about? Does she have any plans?
He looked thoughtful and looked at the floor but then back to me.
