Soon after leaving the anphitheater, they went to the Yoorkoon store as they had previously planned. They accommodated themselves in the same carriage as before.
"So, where is this store... York... something?" asked Garley.
He was excited. He thought that the weapons store he had visited was very interesting, so the thought of a store filled with more eccentric equipment thrilled him. He only regretted not being able to buy anything to keep as a souvenir.
"Yoorkoon," Alix corrected him, with a smile. "Is it far from here?"
"Not really. There is another in Carmaleon," she answered.
They were all tired and silent. Jorge was napping. Alix shifted uncomfortably in her seat as she sat next to Garley.
"Jorge mentioned the Lugan cities..." he went on, trying not to let the conservation die. He really wanted to keep talking to Alix.
"Yes, I lived in Carmaleon until I was about seven. It was a small town, but it had everything we needed. Then dad decided to open a store in Carolinda."
"Wait a minute, so you're a Lugan?" he asked, surprised.
"Not really," she said, chuckling. "I'm originally from Carolinda." He nodded, showing he understood. Meanwhile, the girl smiled. "What was it like living there?" he asked, doubting whether he had
asked a reasonable question.
Alix looked up thoughtfully, trying to remember.
"It was okay," she answered, shrugging her shoulders. "People there tend to have a bit of prejudice towards people from over here, and the town itself is a bit boring."
Garley raised his eyebrows, "Why all this prejudice, anyway?" "Well, this rivalry is ancient. It has to do with regional differences,
as far as abilities and powers go. There has been some conflict
between the two towns. Kansnubra is actually divided between
Carolinda's allies and those who support other Lugan towns. There is a standing truce, but unfortunately, the last conflict was devastating and its consequences are still evident today. The hate that grew from it has deep roots," she answered.
"Wow, that's scary." "Yeah."
They were both silent for a moment as the carriage shook from side to side. Garley didn't know why, but he now felt uncomfortable next to Alix.
"Have you got many friends around there?"
"No... I've never had many friends. The only ones I had were Carla and Grace, and it's been a while since I've seen them. But I'm happy. I got used to it quickly," she said, watching everything outside the carriage.
