chapter 31

"yes, Carl! of course! a million times yes!" you shrieked, Carl slipped the small piece of metal onto your finger, then proceeded to jump up and embrace you in the warmest hug known to man.

in this moment, you felt safe. you felt happy. you felt normal. which is something you never feel anymore. you never imagined getting engaged at fifteen or sixteen, however old you are now. you never imagined anything like this. then it hit you-

who's gonna walk me down the aisle?

your smile faded, Carl felt the mood change, and pulled away

"what's wrong, princess?" he asked

"nothing, i'm so happy" you smiled

"I love you so much, baby" he cooed, kissing your forehead

"I love you too" you replied, burrowing your face in the crook of his neck.

the next few weeks went by slowly as you prepared for your "wedding." everyone was supportive for the most part. Daryl being Daryl thought it was rather ridiculous, but that's expected from him. Caryl and Maggie had gone out almost everyday to find you the perfect wedding attire. it was harder than they thought. you spent most of your time thinking about your bridal party. should you even have one? isnt this already kind of ridiculous as it is? of course it is. it's the beginning of the end of the world. this is dumb. although, you really wanted Maggie to be your maid of honor. she basically already was anyways. she made sure you had everything you needed, she did most of the planning, and she was already finding decorations for the church. though you want an outdoor wedding. the weather has been perfect lately, the rain can wait another week, right?

wow. one week.

then, you get to marry the one you were meant to find. even in this shithole of a world, you still found love. perfect, yet so imperfect love.

the next few days went by slower yet quicker than any. you and carl hadn't been able to talk much because you've both been so busy. you only see each other at night and in the morning, sometimes you see each other around Alexandria during the day, but not as much as youd like to. you've decided a bridal party is a bad idea. just you, carl, and gabriel up there. that's it.

then the day finally came. the day you'd been dreaming of since you were a little girl.

but first, you had to ask someone something.

"daryl?" you asked, walking into Carol's house

"hm?" he grunted from the couch

"I have a question" you asked, sitting next to him "would you walk me down the aisle?"

Daryl's head darted towards you, you could hardly see his eyes because of his luscious lion mane.

"the hell you mean?" he said in his low, raspy voice "i ain't your dad"

"my dad is dead, daryl. you're the next best thing"

"you dont want me, you want glenn"

"is Glenn alive? no. hes not. just do this for me, please?" you asked

"i ain't wearing no tux" he snapped

"fine by me" you sighed, beginning to walk away

"you love him?" daryl asked, causing you to stop and look back at him

"carl?" you asked, earning a nod "of course i love him"

"what happens if he dies?" daryl said

"I'd like to not think about that right now" you said "I've gotta go get ready before maggie comes and makes me" you giggled "see you in a few hours?"

"where do I go?" he asked

"carl will be in the church, we'll be around back" you said

"got it, I'll be there" he said, trying to smile. he was never one for smiling.

you walked to Maggie's house as she began to help you get ready. you slipped on the dress and Carol did the corset as Maggie began on your makeup.

"I wish Glenn were here" you said, staring at your figure in the mirror.

"he is" Maggie said, "we just cant see him"

"he'd be so proud of you" Carol said "he always wanted you and carl together"

"yes he did, he and I had many long conversations about it" Maggie said "he loved you like a daughter y/n"

"I miss him so much" you said

"are we ready?" michonne asked, walking in, then pausing when she saw you. her lip began to quiver as she looked you up and down "you look so beautiful" she said, "carl got so lucky"

"thank you" you smiled, pulling her in for a hug

"ready to go?" michonne asked

"yes" you smiled at yourself in the mirror.

all of you began walking to the church. when you arrived, you walked to the back and waited for daryl. when he finally got there, you linked arms with him as you began to walk. there was no music, but everyone knew you were coming.

as you stepped into the church, your eyes landed on carl, his on you. as you walked, Daryl by your side, everything felt normal. everything felt okay. like you had the world back, your life back. you didnt need your mom, her time in your life was over. you didnt need your dad, you had so many others. however there was one person, just one, you were longing to see more than anything.

Glenn

you could feel him with you, you could even see him, standing next to carl, his kind eyes smiling at you. you felt yourself want to cry, in fact you almost began to tear up, but held it back when you were standing face to face with the love of your life.

"dearly, dearly beloved" gabriel said "today we are gathered to celebrate the marriage of y/n l/n, and carl grimes"

you didnt pay much attention to what gabriel was saying after that, you were too focused on Carl's beautiful, pure face.

"I, y/n, take you, carl, to be my husband. to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, or worse, for richer, or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part" you said, whispering the last part as you it occured to you that you could lose carl any day now, but your mind shifted when he began his vowls to you.

"I, carl, take you, y/n, to be my wife. to have and to hold, for better or for worse, for richer, or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part." he smiled, staring into your eyes as he began to cry

"you may kiss the bride" gabriel said.

and with that, the man youd like to spend the rest of your life with, took your cheek in his hand and softly touched his lips to yours, then dipped you. when he finally brought you back up, you looked each other in the eyes as everyone clapped,

"I love you" carl said, smiling, holding your wrists

"always, baby"

finally, Rick and michonne came up and squeezed the both of you, as did everyone else.

you looked in the distance and thought you saw something, when you glanced back you realized it what it was.

hey guysssss!!!! so sorry i havent updated in like a million years, i've had an EXTREMELY busy last few months and ive lost a lot of people and things have been super hard but im so glad to finally get to release this chapter. it has been in the works since like august. whack. but just a warning, the next chapter will most likely be the last which absolutely breaks my heart but yall this story has no plot anymore lmao, but i love you all and thank you for readingggg also sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes im too lazy to proofread
