Chapter 11: "In the end, we just someone who chooses us over everyone else, under any circumstances."
I looked at Mom and Dad, and it just made me lose my appetite more. Anger was written on their faces. Lately, that's the only expression I see when they're both at home. I sighed and put the spoon and fork down; I just couldn't take the tension anymore.
"Excuse me."
Nag-angat ng tingin si Mommy. "Hindi ka pa tapos kumain."
"Busog na po ako. I need to finish my homework."
I hugged my pillow and wondered how could a lovely relationship such as theirs turn sour in just a snap of a finger. The last time I saw them happy together was three months ago, on my graduation day and I was the valedictorian.
And now? They hardly talk; and when they do, it always ends in a fight. They try to hide it from me, but I'm not a kid anymore. I also know they no longer sleep in the same room. It's been like this for months, and I don't think it'll end soon.
My gazed dropped to the ring on my finger. It was a promise ring that Vash gave me on my graduation. It's special for both of us because it holds a lot of unspoken promises. He said he would give me another ring soon, more expensive and special than this.
Tipid akong napangiti. He bought this using his own money from his gigs.
I reached for my phone and hit up his phone, but it just kept on ringing. After trying a few times, I finally gave up thinking he's probably busy. In just a short period of time, his band has become well known and got so many gigs. They even get invited to perform in some school fairs. Thus, he has got so much busier than ever.
The next day, I was surprised to see him outside our gate waiting for me. It was only 7:30 in the morning. One look on his face, and I knew that he hardly slept.
He smiled sweetly at me, and it just made me sigh. "Mahal, sabi ko naman sa'yo hindi mo ako kailangan ihatid sa school. Wala ka pang tulog."
"Good morning to you, too, Mahal." I glared at him. "Hug muna before you scold me," naglalambing na saad niya.
Muli akong napabuntong-hininga. I gave in and hugged him. I felt him planting kisses on the side of my neck.
"Sorry, I didn't get to answer your call last night. We were performing." I just made a sound.
I worry about him sometimes because I feel like he's pushing himself too hard. "Get some sleep after you drop me off school. Later pa naman ang class mo diba?"
He nodded then he handed me a cup hot chocolate and a paper bag of food. "I know you haven't had breakfast yet."
I smiled softly and gave him a peck on the lips. "Thank you, Mahal."
He just winked at me. On our way to my first subject, I could feel the dagger look the girls were giving me. Sometimes, I couldn't help but second-guess my decision of studying in the same university as Vash; he's too popular that almost every female student hates me.
We met up again at the cafeteria later that day to have lunch together. Bailey had lunch with Kirk outside.
"Saan ka natulog?" I asked him.
