Twenty Four

"Thanks for coming back so quickly, everyone!" The camp leader cheered. Hairo nodded with while everyone else sighed. Your beach trip had been cut short by him, since he wanted to get a head start on the competition. "As requested by the water camp, or as they call themselves, the smart class...? Well, they had us prepare a scavenger hunt! Some items you need to bring back in the rucksacks provided, and others you need to take pictures off! We'll provide cameras, too. You'll be working in pairs, the camp the two winners are in receiving victory and the specific pair getting a prize!"

Everyone perked up in interest, already planning their pairs. Hata stopped them before they could continue.

"Waaiit a second! You'll be picking lots to pick your pairs!" She interrupted, and everyone groaned once again. "Come on, come on. Cheer up, maybe you'll get paired up with someone you've always wanted to be friends with!"

Everyone went and picked their pairs, and you got the number six. You also took an old camera, torch, and a bag, getting the warning about any breakage = paying once again. Then, you headed off to find your partner. You looked around for anyone with the same number, until you came across Kuboyasu.

"Hey, where's number nine?" He called out as everyone else was pairing. You looked over his shoulder at his number.

"That's a six." You said, walking over and taking the paper. You turned it around, revealing the true number.

"Huh, seriously?" He questioned, and you nodded.

"Yep. They use the same font for everything here, and I saw it online once. The nines have a straight line instead of a curved one. Anyway, I'm on team six too, so we're paired!" You exclaimed, showing him your own paper.

"Oh, cool." He said, confused as to how you could remember a whole font. You went to get yourself a list, noticing that Saiki had sadly been paired with Teruhashi, boys left and right glaring at him. You snickered. Poor guy. Everyone else had been paired with friends, conveniently. Apart from Saiko.

"Hey, Kuboyasu, swap partners with me. This is your friend, right?" Saiko said, dragging over Nendo, who was oblivious of what was going on.

"Huh? We aren't allowed to swap." Kuboyasu said, and you raised an eyebrow. That rule was never established.

"Huh?? Just take your dumb oaf already!!" Saiko yelled, starting to get into your partner's face.

"Since when do you tell me what to do?" Kuboyasu growled, doing the same. You sighed, going to break it up once you noticed the hunt was starting.

"Hey, hey! The hunt is gonna start soon, let's just stick to our current partners so we won't get in trouble." You said, dragging the angered Kuboyasu away.

"Tch." Saiko tutted, spinning on his heel and walking back to Nendo angrily. Nendo proceeded to mess with him, only feeding into his temper. Kuboyasu apologized once he came to his senses, though still slightly angry at Saiko.

And soon, everyone was lined up at the edge of the forest, ready to start the hunt.

"Alright, everyone! Remember what we said about the barriers! The forest is safe, but make sure you don't get hurt by falling or anything. We're starting soon!" The leader called out, having a walkie-talkie in hand. She listened for a moment, before grinning. "Make sure you head back when the announcement is heard! This is the final countdown! Set off in five! Four! Three! Two! One! GO!" As soon as she finished, everyone rushed off as she yelled, "GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE! MAKE THE FIRE CAMP PROUD! LET'S WIN!!"

"What should we find first?" You said, looking at your list. It was pretty simple, consisting of things like 'Something rough' or 'Your favorite stick'. There was also one which said 'Two pieces of litter', which was pretty smart of them, since it made it so you could clean up the forest. There were also things like 'The old well' or 'lookout tower', which required a picture. And lastly there were picture-optional things, such as 'Something you find beautiful', or 'Something you think is a treasure'. Overall, the list was pretty interesting.
