Violet POV

I felt someone tap on my shoulder, I turned around and looked to see Bofur smiling at me. "Want something to eat lass?" He asked holding some soup out to me. I nodded and sat up before taking it. "Thank you..." I said as I took it. "Your welcome." He said before going back. Suddenly I felt two people sit on ether side of me. I instantly felt uncomfortable. "Hello!" I heard one of them say. I kept my eyes on my soup and stayed quiet. "I'm Kili, that's Fili if you don't remember our names!" Kili said happily. I nodded, "okay..." I said quietly. I wasn't used to having people sit so close to me, or try to talk to me for that matter. "So, how old are you?" Kili asked. "31..." I said quietly. Suddenly I was bombarded with multiple question.
"What's your favorite color?" Kili asked "Green"
"What's your favorite animal?" Fili asked. "Butterflies"
"What's your eye color?" "Where are you from?" "Why don't you talk very much?" "Why do you look scared?" I felt my anxiety going through the roof. They both stayed silent for a moment. "Can we ask you one more?" Fili asked nicely. I nodded slowly. "How tall are you?" Fili asked. "4'4" I said quietly. "Wow, your really tall for a Hobbit..." Kili said. I nodded, "I'm not full hobbit." I said quietly..that wasn't the truth...but I decided against saying anything. "What else are you?" Fili asked. "Well...I'm actually a third Hobbit, a third elvish and a third Dwarvish." I said. They looked at me wide eyed. "Hey! Guys!" Kili yelled gaining the company's attention. "She's part dwarf!" Kili said happily. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment. "Really?" Balin asked. I nodded and stood before wandering a little ways away from the company. I found a path up to ontop of a rock over the company. I sighed and sat down. I stayed quiet and looked up at the stars.

"I didn't know you where part dwarf." I heard Bilbo say. I nodded, "yeah...my dad is full Dwarf..." I said. Bilbo looked surprised, "he is?" He asked. I nodded, "yeah, I mean I don't blame you for noticing, he never leaves the house unless it's dark." I said. Bilbo nodded. "Well, Thorin wanted me to bring you back down so he knows where everyone is." I nodded, deciding to just go back down and not argue.

I rejoined the company and saw with them, though not saying a thing. I noticed Bilbo had gone over and snuck his pony an apple, suddenly I heard a piercing scream. "What was that?" Bilbo asked. "Orcs..." Kili said. "Orcs?!" Bilbo asked worried. "Throat-cutters. There'll be dozens of them out there. The lowlands are crawling with them." Fili said, I felt my heart start to pound hard. "They strike in the wee small hours, when everyone's asleep. Quick and quiet; no screams, just lots of blood." Kili said. I pulled my my knees to my chest and tucked my head in. "You think a night raid by orcs is a joke?" I heard Thorin say. I kept my head down. "We didn't mean anything by it..." I could tell it was Kili, and that he regretted saying it. "No you didn't. You know nothing of the world." I heard Thorin pass me and walk off. "Don't mind him laddie, Thorin has more reason than most to hate orcs." Balin said. I peaked my eyes up but his a big proportion of my face was still hidden. "What happened?" I asked quietly. "What's that lass?" Balin asked. "What happened?" I asked louder. Balin sighed. "After the dragon took the Lonely Mountain, King Thror tried to reclaim the ancient dwarf kingdom of Moria. But our enemy had got there first." Balin started the story, I sat quietly listening intently. "Moria had been taken by legions of Orcs lead by the most vile of all their race: Azog, the Defiler. The giant Gundabad Orc had sworn to wipe out the line of Durin. He began by beheading the King." My eyes widened listening. I felt sick to my stomach and heartbroken for Thorin. "Thrain, Thorin's father, was driven mad by grief. He went missing, taken prisoner or killed, we did not know. We were leaderless. Defeat and death were upon us." I looked back and saw Thorin with his back to us. "He stood alone against this terrible foe, his armor rent...wielding nothing but an oaken branch as a shield" Balin continued, saying how Thorin had cut his hand off. Azog, the Defiler, learned that day that the line of Durin would not be so easily broken." Balin said. I looked over to Fili and Kili, knowing Thorin was their uncle. "Our forces rallied and drove the orcs back. Our enemy had been defeated. But there was no feast, no song, that night, for our dead were beyond the count of grief. We few had survived. And I thought to myself then, there is one who I could follow. There is one I could call King." Balin said. I looked and saw Thorin coming back to the company. I looked at him...his muscular physic, his ice blue eyes. I felt as though I wouldn't have to worry as much anymore. "What happened to him, Azog?" Bilbo asked. "That filth died of his wounds long ago." Thorin said as he walked towards us. "We should all get some rest." He said as he turned and walked over to the rock he was going to sleep on. I looked at the King...I wanted to speak to him.
