Hiking and Worms

P:     As we tramp through the forest, I hear a small crack of a twig. I turn and see two, large golden eyes peering at me. Out comes a tiger, a black tiger, with glowing eyes.

It watches me, circles me before running back into the jungle. I run faster to catch up tot he group. We finally reach a spot just a couple of miles from the river.

I stop as everyone continues. “We make camp here.”

Ray turns, “Yes, of course.”

That night, all we do is set up camp and then make a fire. Meki and Blake drag a couple of logs over for us to sit on. We sit down and munch on our food as the fire crackles. It sparks and I watch the continuous shadows of everyone moving. Meki stands up and rolls up his sleeve.

“Could I tell you a story?”

Everyone nodded with enthusiasm.

“It was a long time ago and a bear lived in a cave. I was only twelve and was climbing my favourite tree in the forest by our house. I was climbing higher and higher. Higher than I had ever been before until I reach the top. I peered at the house and saw workers walking around, working. I looked the other way and saw a cave, hidden by the bushes and trees. I climbed down and rushed over to where I saw the cave. I ran hard until I reached the spot I had remembered seeing. An apple tree, it was strange. An apple tree in the middle of a forest. I walked a little further until I saw the cave. It was rocky alright. I looked in and saw a path of bones, I couldn’t see any firther because the was so dark. I grabbed rocks and rubbed them together to start a fire. The spark flickered and then caused a burst of light. I saw something horrid a dark shadow. I heard a growl, then a roar. It came towards me. Running. Fast.

I then saw the fur and realised I had walked into a bears cave, I shrieked and ran away. It chased me and it was so close that it grabbed me and ripped my arm off.”

Meki clicked his arm and it came off leaving a red half an arm.

A scream echoed through the forest. I came from behind a tent.

Meki leaped up and then turned, “Who’s there? Come out from where you are now!”

Another squeal and a girl, only about seventeen walked out. With her arms raised.

Meki stood back, “A girl!”

The girl looked up and raised her eyebrows. She was confused.

Everyone except I stood up and began chanting.

“The prophecy, the prophecy.”

The girl turned and began to run but Meki pulled her back.

Held her and then hugged her.

She looked tense before she began to relax. All of a sudden she began to cry and she shuddered. I stood to grab a blanket for her but Blake pushed me back down.

After a while he brought her over to the fire and gave her a blanket. She sat down, on the dirt and leaned back on the log. Meki began his introduction, “I am Meki and this is the tribe, thats Danny, Blake, Krueger, Jacki, Haley, Sophie, Pi, Ray and Taji. Taji is the leader of this tribe and is a princess of Spadtrek. She though is in a dream right now. This is her dream and she has been dreaming for at least a year and a bit now. While we have been separately walking, lost in the forest.”

The girl gasped and bounced up.

“Though Jacki didn’t have that happen to her. She was born in these woods, so yes. Are you alright? You’re breathing is really hard out girl.” Meki chattered.

She nodded and began to speak, “I have been walking for days and am lost. I was in the future but now am here in the past. Exactly like you! Exactly!”

She began to blur on her last sentence before she passed out and lay their.

Krueger and Pi ran to her and sat next to her. They checked her pulse, but she seemed to be fine. They lifted her up and carried her to a spare tent. After a while they came back out and zipped the tent shut.

I stayed up for a bit longer before retreating back to my tent. I lay there for a while, listening to the others talk, watching the shadows from the fire. I then closed my eyes and slept.

I woke up and rubbed my eyes, the light shining down burned my eyes. I changed into some new clothes. I zipped the tent open and wandered out. Meki sat alone on a log, his back to me. I walked over, placed my hand on his shoulder and sat down beside him.

“Hey, sorry about your arm. I wonder what the new girls name is?”

“Yeah, actually. All she said is that it happened to her.”

I nod, I hear a zip and look behind. The new girls tent zip is opening up.

I whisper to Meki, “New girls woken.”

He nods and smiles, I smile back.

She walks over and sits opposite us, “Morning Meki and Taji. What is happening today?”

Meki stands up and sits next to the new girl, “Taji and Ray are going to go to the waterfall to get water, Danny, Blake, Jacki, Haley are going to hunt. Krueger and Sophie are going to keep watch while you, Pi and I are going to try and find a new campsite.”

She nods and rubs her hands. They are probably freezing.

I get up and sit on the other side of the new girl. “What is your name?”

She answers with, “Beth.”

“Beth, I know it is hard but everyone here except Jacki have come from the same thing. It is alright.”

She nods again and I hug her. She feels so tense and scared. I feel the vibes.

I get up, “I am going to wake Ray up.”

I walk over to wake Ray for our trip today.

I enter Rays tent and he lays their fast asleep. I lay there with him and listen to the conversation outside. I hear Jacki’s voice.

“Morning pipsqueak.”

There is silence before Jacki talks again.

“Well I am going to wash my hair, Bye!”

I shake Ray and then he rolls over and looks at me. “Taji?”

I hold his hand and lean lay down. I lean my head on his chest and feel his heartbeat racing.

I close my eyes and wish for a good life.

 

E:  It must have been a while since I entered Ray’s tent because everyone is now awake. Ray has left the tent too. They are all outside eating breakfast. I zip down the tent and step onto the dewy grass. There is a spot next to Ray on the log so I sit down next to him. He hands me a bowl of breakfast. I must be tired because I thought I saw my food moving. After I finish, Ray speaks up, “Meki, how did you make the worms taste so darn good.” I feel sick. I look into my empty bowl. Which, in a few seconds is not empty anymore.

“Taji! Are you alright?” Asks Ray.

“Yeah just--.” The worms come back up again. It goes all over Ray and I am so embarrassed. I run into my tent to clean myself up. When I come back out again everyone has gone to their duty except Ray. I see him and my cheeks immediately turn red. He comes over to me.

“Hey it’s okay, I cleaned myself up and I feel as fresh as a daisy.” He says. I don’t reply but I know I have to get over it. It’s not really the Ray part I was embarrassed about, I knew he wouldn’t mind. The thing is I did it in front of the.Whole.Entire.Camp. He slings an arm over my shoulders and he is carrying all the supplies with the other. He is so strong, I just didn’t realise it.
