Flashback

P: We hike, for a couple more hours before we see smoke rising into the innocent blue sky. I grin wildly as we continue, after about ten more minutes of walking we smell meat and everything here looks a little more alive. We decide to set our camp up here but keep more into the bushes and growth of the tree’s, as we look. I find a small patch, hidden by bushes and thorns. It looks kind of scary but I shrug the idea off.

I run back,  through a little secret passage without getting cut, to Ray and Jacki. Ray is sitting on a wooden log with his knife raised at Jacki.

“Hand it back, Jacki!”

“Hand what back?”

“You know what, don’t lie. I told you never to lie to me again or I would kill you. So I must keep my word.”

“STOP, stop this nonsense at once, the two of you. Ray, what did she steal?”

“My hunting knife, the one I lent you. It has words engraved in it about finding someone special. I wrote it about Taji and Jacki was just jealous.”

“Was not, I would rather be with the sickening Meki with you, Ray!”

“Good, then leave. Taji wants to be with just me, she told me!”

Jacki turns, her eyes flaming with anger.

“You want him, I thought I was your friend! You betrayed me!”

“Jacki.. something isn’t right. Guys please follow me, something just doesn’t add up. How could you read my mind Ray and Jacki I thought it but I would never do it. You are my best friend, now follow me.”

The get up and follow me, I walk to the small patch, in the thorn bush.

“Now how do you feel about Jacki stealing your knife, Ray?”

“I feel fine, I don’t know what got into me. Jacki, I am so sorry, I would never kill you. Something isn’t right back their.”
Jacki laughs, ‘No kidding and that is okay. I didn’t take it.”

“I did,” I said, “You gave it to me to keep, remember?”

“Oh yeah..” We all laugh.

“This spot must not be enchanted but I was wondering, how come I am not getting angry like that.”

“Because you are to innocent, my love.” Ray says and he steps to me.

I grab the knife from my boot and point it at him, “I sure ain’t innocent boy.”

I slide it back in and we all laugh again.

“I think we should camp here. It is safe and the passage is small. So most of the tribe people won’t fit and no offence Ray, but you hardly didn’t.”

Ray frowns and Jacki smirks, “Ray you are too big.”

“You are not big Ray. You are.. what is the word? Muscly.”

Ray forces his muscles to pop out and grins at me, “Now you are a show off.” I say.

“I am going back to retrieve our stuff, stay here and don’t go out or you will both get crazy.

They nod and I squish through the passage. Leaving them their grinning.

E: I walk over to the enchanted place and I see our bags sitting on the angry land which I have now nicknamed ‘getawayfrommeorillkillyou’ land. I walk to the bags and sling all three backpacks over my shoulders. I have noticed my muscles growing lately, not bragging or anything. Just as I am about to step off the ‘getawayfrommeorillkillyou’ land, everything rushes into my head at once. My fiancee is hugging me tight, then I see my brother in battle with his brave face on, but under his eyes he is scared. I see my mother, on the day she died, sick in the castles most luxurious bed. She whispers in my ear, ‘be strong, no matter what happens.’ I see ray, kissing me behind the waterfall. Then comes a flashback of me and Jacki, laughing and talking about boys near the nightclub. And then I see Meki, pushing me down, with a belt in his hand. The flashbacks stopped so suddenly, it felt like a slap to the face. But then they start up again. This time it’s of the thing that was chasing me through the rooms, in my first dreamscape. The man I saw just before I went back into reality. He looks scarier than I remember. His teeth a sickly yellow colour, his eyes deep black. There was no mercy in his face. When the flashbacks stop, it’s like a force pushes me to the ground, and forces me to close my eyes. Once again, like a year ago, with the imprint of the man lingering on the inside of my mind.
