You were sat on a bench beside Oikawa, munching on the muffin he had convinced you to get. He was currently tapping his fingers on an empty coffee cup.

"So did you text Iwa-chan about rescheduling practice times?" he asked.
"Not yet. I've been meaning to do that, but I think it's just been slipping my mind." you answered. "I should just ask Mikazuchi to remind me, she's good at that sort of thing..."

"Mikazuchi? You mean the tall brunette?" oikawa said.
"Yes. She's one of my middle blockers." you replied.
"Ahh. You're close with her, then?" he glanced at you.
"Mhm. My team are really the only people I tolerate." you sighed.

"You don't seem to tolerate a lot of things, [L/N]-chan." he said.
"Don't pretend you know that about me." you answered aloofly. "or anything else."
"I know enough. I know that you'll let your guard down in return for food." he said.

You scoffed.
"The only reason I said yes is because Kindaichi didn't take me to a cafe. And 'let my guard down'? Don't give yourself too much credit. You're not exactly the epitome of being intimidatingly masculine, Oikawa-san. Besides, you don't seem like the type to-" you started.

He suddenly lurched forwards, grabbing your wrist.
"What- Oikawa-san-" you exclaimed. He pushed you down onto your back, holding you down by both of your wrists. You blinked up at him, wide-eyed.

"I thought you were smarter than that, [L/N]-chan. You trust too easily." Oikawa said. "I 'don't seem like the type'? The type to do what? You don't know me, either. What if I were someone dangerous, and you let your guard down because I seemed innocent? What would you do in this situation? You're completely defenceless."

He stopped talking and his mouth formed a hard line before he let go of you and sat back up as if nothing had happened.
"Oikawa-san?" you said.
"Yes?" he replied.

'I'm so going to regret this.' you thought.

"I wouldn't mind if we went for another walk soon."

You stopped at your front door and looked back at Oikawa.

"What? Have I got something in my teeth?" he asked.
"Thank you for walking me home, Oikawa-san." you said. "erm... goodnight."

You turned away and entered your house.
"Who is that boy outside?" Mama immediately asked, peering through the window to get a look. "that's Tooru-kun!"

"You know him?" you swivelled around to face her.
"Well, of course I do. Ki and I are close friends." she said - your mouth fell open. "we bonded over both of our children going to the same junior high, and playing volleyball."

"I thought you said you went out with a boy called Kindaichi-san?" Chichi called from another room. He made himself present in the hallway.

"Ah... well, the cafe Kindaichi and I were supposed to go to happened to have been robbed last night." you explained. "so instead we went and watched the sunset together."

"Did anything happen between you two?" Mama asked, but you knew what she was implying.
"He did kiss me." you answered, continuing to speak before Mama could start talking. "but... it didn't really feel like a kiss. It was just... the stoic feeling of his lips against mine. I didn't even realise he had kissed me because I was lost in thought."

"That's my daughter!" Chichi exclaimed with a hearty laugh.
"And what about Tooru-kun?" Mama asked expectantly.

"Kindaichi and I parted ways and Oikawa-san found me walking home." you said. "there isn't much to it. I told him about my evening with Kindaichi, and he took me to a different cafe. I got a free muffin as an award for tolerating him, and then he walked me home."

"Like a true gentleman. I have the mind to sock that Kindaichi-san in the nose." Mama said. "why don't you go out with Tooru-kun next time?"

"Because he doesn't see me that way. He's nothing but a haughty, bratty womaniser who gets what he wants with nothing but a wink and a smile." you sneered at the thought of him.

"Isn't Tooru-kun your friend?" Mama frowned. she flicked her wrist, which prompted Chichi to leave.
"Like hell he's my friend." you spat out. "sorry. I just... he doesn't like me, and I don't like him all that much either. It's been that way since Kitagawa. Ever since he almost hit Kags, I've sort of feared it might happen again."

"Ah... I've heard this story a couple of times from both Tooru-kun's and Tobio-kun's mothers." Mama sighed. "oh! Kindaichi-san is in the same year as Tobio-kun, isn't he?"

"Kindaichi Yuutarou. Yeah." you replied.
"Yuutarou-kun! Oh, I went to school with his father!" Mama exclaimed joyfully.

"That's wonderful." you drily answered. "now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to get some sleep."
"Of course, of course." Mama smiled. "sleep well, my little Tsubaki."

"Night, Mama." you said, before turning and scampering to the stairs. "night, Chichi!"

You then marched to your room and placed your phone down on your bed. You stripped and carefully put on a nightgown, looking out of your window warily and wondering if anyone could see you whenever you changed. At the perturbing thought, you closed your curtains and then stepped across the room silently to flip off the lights. As soon as you did, a silhouette appeared to the side of the room.

You gasped and flicked the lights on, pressing your back to the door. The tensity your muscles had quickly gained diminished, however, when you saw it was just your volleyball jacket hung over your chair. You made to pick it up, admiring the characters on the back that spelt out 'Aoba Johsai', and then folded it neatly into your volleyball bag.

You then turned off the lights and climbed into bed. You closed your eyes and breathed out a sigh, settling, when your phone buzzed. You squinted against the harsh light and saw you had one message.

You read over the notification and smiled, opening it.
