You found that Oikawa had left the mall earlier than you and your friends, but he had dropped his nephew back with his sister and coincidentally ended up spotting you, and decided to follow you in case something happened.
He walked you home that night.
"Tooru-kun, what are you doing here so late?" Mama asked, happily surprised to see the ace setter when she opened the door. she looked at you and her face fell. "oh. Oh, dear, Tsubaki. What happened?"
"Some rando grabbed her on the street and took her bag... I happened to be there and scared him off." Oikawa explained solemnly.
"Oh, Tooru-kun, Tsubaki. How could this have happened?" Mama said in a sad tone.
"All my money, my phone, my keys..." you hiccuped. "it's all gone."
"I'm sorry I didn't get there faster, [L/N]-chan." Oikawa apologised.
"It's okay, Oikawa-san. It wasn't your fault." you said, wiping your nose.Mama gestured to Oikawa and then took you into her arms.
"Tooru-kun, you should get home. Your mother must be worried sick about you being out so late." she said."Alright. I'll see you at school, [L/N]-chan." Oikawa said, waving over his shoulder. You didn't respond and instead watched his back as he walked down the path leading up to the doorstep and disappeared into the darkness.
"My poor baby..." Mama tutted sympathetically. "go and get some rest, okay?"
You nodded and scurried away, ignoring the greeting from Chichi and heading straight to your room, where you fell down onto your bed and yelled into your pillow. You then rolled onto your back and stared at the ceiling emptily, your only comfort the familiar, gentle tapping of the tree beside your window and the rain beginning to patter.
'What about Dannasan?...' you realised. 'he won't know my phone was stolen... so how will I ever talk to him?'
Your stomach hollowed out as you realised that you might never talk to Dannasan again, that he might be messaging you right now and giving up on you because you're not responding. A quiet meow snapped you out of your thoughts and you looked around to see sora standing in the doorway. You made a purring noise and patted the duvet on your legs, where she jumped up and made herself at home.
You sadly ran your hands through her fur.
"What am I going to do, Sora? I don't know who he is, so I can't ask him for his number again..."Sora meowed, squirming about and rolling over before reaching onto her back legs to claw at the curtains.
"Quit that." you said, pulling her away from the curtains. She hopped up onto your desk and then onto the windowsill, behind the curtains. She started meowing loudly, scratching at the window.
"Sora!" you hissed, throwing open the curtains and picking her up. She meowed and flailed about until you placed her down on your bedcovers, where she jumped from and galloped out of the room.
You sighed and knelt up to draw your curtains again, when you noticed something small flash in contrast to the pitch darkness. It hit the window and bounced away - it then occurred to that the trees had not been tapping against the glass. You opened your window and warily peered down, to see none other than Oikawa there. But not just Oikawa - it was a rain-soaked Oikawa, his clothes plastered to his body from the rain.
"[L/N]-chan!" he hissed, dropping what appeared to be a handful of pebbles - he'd been throwing rocks at your window.
"Oikawa-san?!" you spoke in a soft tone, so that he could hear you but you didn't wake up your parents."Are you alright?" he asked.
"What are you doing down there! It's freezing." you said. "ugh- give me a second."You shut your window and threw on your dressing gown and slippers, silently running down the stairs and grabbing your keys. You let yourself out, immediately getting caught in the now heavy rain, and ran to Oikawa.
He grinned, mopping his hair from his face and grabbing your hands.
"Why are you out here?!" you asked breathlessly.
"I came to see you." he said. "to see if you were alright."
"It's pouring with rain, you idiot!" you replied.
"Come for a drive with me." he squeezed your hands."But... my parents—" you hesitated.
"Don't have to know." he finished for you. "come on, [L/N]-chan. I really want to."
"Alright." you finally decided. "just... let's not take too long."
"I promise it won't be for long." he said, before gently started to pull you to his car."I'll hold you to that, Oikawa-san." you answered. He opened the door for you and you quickly got in, running a hand through your wet hair. He clambered into the driver's seat soon after, shaking off his hair. You felt the droplets spatter against your cheeks and sighed, wiping your face with your damp sleeve - not that it helped. His car was already turned on, and warm.
"You got new tires." you inferred.
"Mhm! Iwa-chan's dad did them for me." he said cheerily, pulling on the handbrake and then moving his hands to the steering wheel."Where are we going, Oikawa-san?" you asked.
"Anywhere. As long as it's with you, I'll be fine." he said, pulling away from your house and driving off down the road."That's corny. I didn't think you were the corny type." you said. Oikawa turned out of the residential area and onto the street, taking his eyes off the road briefly to smile at you.
"There's a lot you don't know about me, [Y/N]-chan."
