Zuko and I snuck our way into the fire nation base with ease. We only had minor encounters with the guards, but no one that could stop us. To avoid being found out, we swore not to speak, just communicate using signals and writing in the dirt. No bending.
We get down to the space where Avatar Aang is beging held. He seems shocked to see us, and with good reason. Honestly, I forgot this happened in my last life. It seems my memory is starting to fade.
"W-who are you?" Aang stuttered, unable to move since he was in chains.
I held myself back from giggling and took out my weapons. Zuko did the same and we both charge straight for the chains holding the boy in his place.
The Avatar screams, likely unaware of the fact that we only wish to save him. Well, it's not really my problem anyway. I just want to share this secret with my Zuko.
Wait...
No.
No. No.
I didn't say 'my Zuko'! Not like that! Ahem..
Anyway. We free the Avatar from his shackles and he once again asked who we were, to which we didn't give an answer.
Once the shackles were broken, we stated walking to the door with the Avatar behind us, asking more questions.
"What's going on? Are you here to rescue me?"
I put my swords away, then wave for him to follow behind us, it was then I'm sure he got the message.
Sneaking in was easy, but sneaking out is proving more and more difficult. Since the Avatar is with us in his bright clothes, we can't make bold runs out in the open, so we travel through sewers out of the prison until we sensed no one over head.
This is the reason I hate stealth modes... Seriously, I'd rather wipe everyone out and worry about the consequences later, but this isn't about me, now is it.
We're so close to getting out, we have the Avatar right on the rope to escape, but an alarm went off and suddenly we were surrounded by fire nation guards.
Zuko and I prepare for battle, which will be difficult without bending. We let the Avatar run ahead and did our best to keep the guards occupied. We have each other's backs, so I feel safe enough, at least, I did.. until I saw his face. That asshole that ruined my beauty.
Hal.
"Fuck.. what is he doing here..." I mumble under my breath, but I didn't know Zuko heard me loud and clear.
The Avatar returns to us and sends every person we were fighting, flying back. He used his air bending to shoot us to the top of the wall, and saving me from having to deal with that pedo fire freak. I'm definitely saving him if it's the last thing I do.
Everything was going fairly alright until we got to the last gate. If I could bend, this wouldn't be a problem, but I can't, and it is.
"Stop, we need the Avatar alive." Admiral whatshisname said, which made Zuko take the Avatar captive, and I stand at their side, making sure no one dared get close.
After that, the gate was opened for us and we slowly backed out, but I know they won't let us go. I put myself in the space between Zuko and the fire fort, holding my blades at the ready, knowing the most astounding archers in the world are on their side.
Like I thought, the arrow did come, and it came fast. I couldn't block it before hit hit me right in the center of my mask, nearly knocking it off and absolutely throwing me off my feet. It's not as powerful as a bullet, but I never want to get hit with that directly. For a minute, I'm too dazed to even think. Actually, I feel like I've been dazed for hours, and by the time I recover, my mask isn't on me anymore, and the little boy that would travel with my sister was staring at me.
"May...."
"Oh fuck-" I sighed to myself and slowly sit up. He made me a bed of leaves so I didn't need to sleep on the dirt. He's so damn sweet, but I still don't want anything to do with him. "Aang. How are you and Appa? How's Sokka and Katara? I bet they're sick right now, huh."
Aang nodded slowly, then looked over at my unconscious friend. "Why... Did you guys save me."
I shrug, and of course, I'm gonna be honest, "I didn't want to save you. I couldn't care less. I hate those fire nation assholes and would rather die than go back to being their prisoner. But Zuko wanted to save you, and that's what we did."
"But...why? Why did he.. and why are you.... What? You're like me, May. Your entire village..." He sounded sad and looked so confused and conflicted.
I sigh, "Well... That is true, but Zuko had no part in that. He'd never have a part in that. He's a good person, unlike me."
"May, you are a good person, I know you must have your reasons for following him. Even when he came after us, you never really tried helping him."
"Duh. Like I said, I want nothing to do with you, but I don't want you to get hurt or anything. Katara would be so sad..." I lowered my head, hugging my knees to my chest.
"...You should-"
"Go? Yeah, no, I'm not leaving Zuko."
Aang sighed, "He'll be fine. I won't let anything happen, I promise."
I guess he has something to say to Zuko, and it's probably none of my business, so I get my mask and weapons and just walk away.
It's not my place to get in between them, this is how everything is supposed to be. I'm not supposed to be here...Man... That kind of pisses me off.
I'm too pretty to be angry.
