Our Future ~ Piper & Jason

(A/N before you read: This poem was inspired by @TheBookworm1237 's"Hey Bluejay" where Piper McLean writes a series of letters to Jason Grace. In the poem, there are three points of view; Jason's, Piper's and both.)

we're sitting in
a garden
where lovely flowers
surround us
and the lemonade is sweet

...

two little kids
one boy, one girl
twirl around me
their laughs echoing
as they play

...

the look on her face,
the smile, the laugh,
so beautiful, I can't help
but smile too,
my hand in hers

...

then she's baking
beautiful little cupcakes
topped with little chocolate hearts
with a twinkle in her eyes
for our daughter's third birthday

...

we're dancing,
it's late, but
the music is soft
and I wish
I could pause time

...

but the future we saw
was taken away,
the day he sacrificed
everything for me

...

but the future we saw
was taken away
when my life became
a sweet recoil of
love, pity, and pain

...

and then
my heart breaks,
because
I haven't done
anything
but love him
with all my heart

...

and then
my heart breaks,
as I'm pulled back
into reality
because
I haven't done
anything
but love her
with all my heart

...

to love with
all my heart
for a future
that will never be
ours
